I was doing some research for an upcoming trip to the US from Sydney and noticed that via Vancouver, AC offer some quite attractively priced business class fares to my final destination, Chicago. I am guessing that the reason they are more reasonably priced is that the Vancouver to Chicago leg is via their regional carrier, has anyone had experience of flying a leg like that in business class into the US? My other question was that would I be considered transit there, with my bag going straight through to Chicago? If anyone had experience of the Sydney/Vancouver leg, I'd love to here that too.

AC business class to YVR is pretty good (flat beds with every seat having isle access) - not SQ but OK - service can vary depending on the crew but I've always found them friendly - transiting YVR to the US is very easy as you clear US customs and immigration in YVR and land in Chicago (or any US city) as a domestic flight. The YVR-ORD segment will depend on the type of aircraft but most unlikely to be wide-body flat-beds. I can't recall if you collect your luggage then drop it off - but again very seamless.

If the price is right I would say it's a vey good option.

The YVR - ORD leg is operated by narrowbody jets, most likely the A319, so you'll expect recliner seats. As you arrive at YVR, you'll see signs that say "U.S. Transit" or anything along those lines so just make sure you follow them (if you already hold the ticket for the next flight). Then, you would clear U.S. customs and head to the gate for your onward flight.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks KurtisLee and Luxury Lizard, sadly by the time I was ready to book, the cheaper deal had disappeared, so I ended up booking with All Nippon, so that I can arrive in Chicago, albeit, via Tokyo.
