Air Canada awards on SQ seem to have increased

While checking today I noticed that SYD-SIN-HKG (or BKK) now shows as 60K points instead of 45K in J (while SYD-SIN is still 45K)

I was checking as I am concerned that with SQ moving to their version of variable priced awards - this could impact AC awards on SQ. AC already has variable pricing on its own flights as well as a few other *A and partner airlines.

That would be correct nothing strange here.

SYD-SIN fits under the 2001-5000 mile bracket which is 45k.
SYD-SIN-HKG is now a 5495mile journey which pushes it into the next bracket.

Afaik SYD-SIN-BKK is still 45k and that's correct as it's under 5000 miles
Nothing has changed here.

J SYD-sin-hkg is always 60K. The much bigger problem is lack of J Awards from SYD. It sort of made AC pointless for me.

Oops - I sort of panicked because I thought I saw SYD-SIN-BKK at 60K - obviously mistaken. I'm planning to burn my 400K+ AC points soon as I suspect with SQ moving to variable pricing it will have a flow on impact to AC awards.

Funnily enough awards on SQ ex-SYD are now showing up.

I wouldn’t write aeroplan off… excellent connections available with TG to Bangkok and Oman Air onwards from there. Plus the VA flights to Doha and connections onwards to pretty much anywhere in Europe/Africa with TK. Ethiopian to Africa as well.

Even saw BR out of BKK non-stop to Europe (although few and fare between).

Am I the only one struggling with the thread title here?

To me, “Air Canada awards on SQ seem to have increased” implies more SQ award seat availability when booking via Aeroplan.

However, the discussion has mostly been about reduced availability and fewer seats.

Is it supposed to be ironic like “enhanced” when referencing QF?

It took about 5-7 weeks plus several phone calls and at least 4 discussions with supervisors to finally get my bonus points. It was annoying because I ended up buying more points just to get the flights I wanted as they were disappearing😟

Very concerned right now. Bought aeroplane points while on special to nab seats ex Singapore to Australia for January next year but now looks like aeroplan no longer gets any J Singapore Airlines seats.

Well, not longhaul ones anyway, especially on the most popular routes and in premium classes.

As the advice has always been - SQ get the lion's (pun intended) share of its best award seats, and even then they are virtually shrinking now thanks to Access awards. Getting any longhaul premium SQ seats via any other partner (except perhaps for VA and a few *A partners, AC not included) is more a fluke than a pattern, let alone expectation.

I'd try for TG or NH, or AI if you're desperate.

Out of AU it seems to be the 0700 departure from MEL, at least two seats. Coming back there doesn’t seem much of a pattern.

From SIN plenty of other - perhaps better? - options than SQ.

Sin to ADL was always regular with Aeroplan even while that advice was common. Two seats released a day. Since the devaluation by SQ all have stopped.

Risk I take buying points but it’s a huge hit to the Aeroplan program for my flying patterns and has seemed to go unnoticed by many (and fair enough too Adelaide isn’t a massive route). It’s another devaluing of the program.

It’s been widely reported and discussed here on AFF for some time as it’s hit most of AU :(

Ah fair enough then I couldn’t actually find articles/forum posts about the lack of J availability being released to Aeroplan for Singapore to Australia. I’ve searched but all I can find is about the SQ devaluation in KrisFlyer. Is this the same for velocity too going forward?

I’m not across SQ availability via Velocity, but from what I’ve read here in AFF, it seems SQ is more generous releasing award seats via velocity than Air Canada.
