Sydney Airport still wants AirAsiaX

I was hoping Air Asia would fly out of Sydney - its a pain traveling to Melbourne

But it failed to get approval from the Malaysian government in time for a July 1 start date, forcing the airline to abort plans to fly to Sydney for now.

My comment.

The number of airlines now flying to Singapore, plus JQ's entry probably has a lot to do with MAS lack of bums on seats. Thailand, Bali and Now China capacity growing.
MAS is throwing a .vn airlines like tantrum. Anything less than 2 planes a day is not going to hurt. If you resist, Jetstar will get bolder. AAX is the lesser evil.

Why is AAx the less evil versus Jetstar?

Jetstar on the whole employs Australians, pays taxes in Australia

Qantas has been forced to respond with Jetstar to compete against foreign airlines who often have substantial advantages in labour costs, industry regulation and depreciation (ie tax advantages), otherwise the Australian airline industy will end up like the Australian shipping industry - hint there are almost no vessels carrying Aussie flags.

Yeah but that has nothing to do with Australia. They are called flags of convenience and it effects ships across the globe not just Australian ships.

Ohh and I think you missed the point that the OP is written from an MAS perspective. At least that is how I read it.

I'm not MAS centric. But I can't see why the ML .gov would care about any other airline, unless it was one of their own / flagbearer. Obviously this flagbearer is freezing up like a bunny with a spotlight in its eyes.

I think AirAsia is the lesser evil because Jetstar defines high/peak periods, and rarely discounts high demand, and they have the market share to do it - aka pricesetter.
AirAsia X to me, has illogical pricing, but many times I can get a ticket one way, and fly the other carrier back. Its a gamble, and I often have to stump up $90 or so for a connecting hop. Many newbies are sucked in for a cheap ticket one way, then look for their return - assume or otherwise buy Jetstar again, but hey, that return ticket is more expensive, which is what the game is about.

But the story focus is on Sydney. It should not be a problem - unless MAS flights have lower load factors or will crimp expansion.

As for flag of convenience airlines, they all have to pay for fuel, and plane leasing costs ground costs , with staff costs a little variable - until you have to put them up in hotels or pay overtime. AFAIK Jetstar staff have lower wages and benefits, and cheaper lodgings. I suspect Tiger is scabbier, as they often claim delays because a hostie is sick, meaning hosties are not breaking a leg in covering last minute shortages.

If I had a tip, I would suggest the old established airlines release a few cheap seats to retain interest (QF sometimes does), otherwise I'll forget my logins, and use webjet / expert flyer as my main portal.

On the whole in head office yes, but as for cabin crew? They seem to have about 80% Thai crew on the flights I have done with them to HNL, HKT etc.

100% on the money!!!!!!!!

however, keep an eye out - forget about Sydney for the moment with MAS.......
JQ are arguing with darwin govt/darwin airports - to do with base expansion not happening and the new Singapore - Melb flights which are another stand alone issue especially with Aust crews "appearing" to be shafted by the airline as darwin "appears to be being bypassed...... or at least frequency cut back (look out TT will jump in again!! - high airport costs they all said......what a load of cough!!!!!!! - poor wet season loads!!)
anyway........
NT Govt via NT paper reporst talks with MAS!!!!!!!!!!!!
betchya we know the outcome!!
