One or the other, thanks. I was thinking of one time when I was tooling around various threads and I came across a swath of threads being closed by one of the moderators - it may have been NM. May have been a glitch in the auto closure. Anyway clearly if anyone can post to a thread, its not officially 'dead'; if the thread could speak, it might say "I'm not dead yet ...' perhaps like this (from 0:55)

They also manually close the request for assistance threads once those are resolved.

I can see someone setting their diary to remind them to post , just to keep the thread alive :)

Honestly Buzzard,I've been to many AFF gatherings and yours (at least the one I attended) are right up there with MunitalP's events. Bloody great, mate!
Indeed. From what I have heare the Gold Coast Luke Mangan Fine DIning Sit Down Three Course Buffet was quite legendary!

Thinking about what PF wrote some posts back about making friends and so forth, the best thing I ever did on AFF was to attend socials. I think that, overall, if more people came to socials we would have more active posters.

I share your sentiments there Buzz, my life is better for the knowing of good folk like you

I have had a bit of a rest... Just got bored reading the same questions and seeing the same answers. For the past many few months I have been very inactive but am going to be a bit more social on here in the future...

I did wonder where you got to :)

I'm glad to read you'll be posting more! :)

I'll respond to your voicemail on the way home - things getting hectic here for some reason  ;)

I knew where he was GPH, in fact he was my guest on Day 3 to watch us roll you in the First Test @ The Gabba :D. Simo has been most helpful in my new business venture.

Some posters must post a lot in forums I never or seldom visit. I look at a poster's name sometimes and don't recognise it then I see they have 2000 posts or more! I probably remember people's names who have avatars more than those with none though but I'm sure some posters appear from the clouds with thousands of posts so to speak.

Oh and most predictable question: "what's the minimum transit time in LAX?"

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With all respect, you probably need to chill out a little.

AFF has its own culture and it's not going to change. You will find contradictions all over the place, but what's the point of that?

There's a lot of very valuable information here, but it can indeed be hard to find amid all the noise.

We ended up opting for a kind of digest approach... one of our team distills the useful information from here, Flyertalk, and various blogs with an extreme emphasis on the numbers, and then we share that around. You'd be surprised how many other things pop out once all the extraneous information is culled and smart people have a tighter focus, so new opportunities tend to get identified quite quickly. Of course, that's not to say there aren't others out there... which is what keeps us going.

I'd imagine we're doing little more than goes on informally at private AFF gatherings.

Anyway, you'd be more than welcome to join us if that appeals to you. It's not quite as cultish as it might sound.

The pet peeves that stopped me moving out of lurk mode in the past and will probably see me back there again soon:

- The Community Rules say "passive-aggressive behaviour is unacceptable", and yet many prolific posters are masters of the craft.

- I find the "Activity Stream" one of the easier ways to access content given that the app doesn't seem to work, and when I see nine posts in a row saying "Hello :)" or "Welcome aboard!" or something along the lines of "surely you have something to contribute", I doubt the sincerity.

- Some of the in-jokes get tiresome very quickly... yes, I get that you're a couple. I hear it a lot.

- Bullying. Even to an outsider it's really obvious. But some of the most prolific culprits seem to have official sanction.

- Stubbornness. If you get something wrong, just admit it, and back down gracefully, for the record.

In the end, I guess, it's not you, it's me. Best of luck to you all.

Interesting. Are you saying this group of yours is putting together a FFer "workbook" of sorts?

I'd guess he's referring to the Frequent Flyer's Australia facebook group. aka Frequent Flyers Adelaide.
No it's not cultist at all

No idea what medhead's going on about, but this kind of (in this case wildly inaccurate) sniping is a good example of why we shifted to what is essentially a noise-free data-centric mailing list. Facebook? Um, no.

Lifting information from here, FT and blogs and publishing it as their own sounds more of an Ausbt thing to me!

Facebook? Um, no.
I'm a bit confused. I took your previous post to mean you and some others collaborate on a compilation of FFer facts, sourced from a variety of places (versus forum style chit chat) and you'd welcome participation by others, but it's too secret to divulge? I'm certainly interested in all FFer resource bases and wouldn't mind contributing. My PM works if you prefer that method.

I hate when people change their avatar, takes me a while to get used to associating the new picture with their name.
