AFF pop up spam

It's back:

AFF spam2.jpg

The corporate environment does have an ad blocker. It is very good at blocking ads between sections.

I don't have permission to touch add ins, etc.
Corporate malware scanner is active and in place. It certainly managed to totally block one of these pop-ups as a known threat.
cookies and site data for AFF cleared a few times over the period that I've been seeing this.
There is another browser, however, IE some obsolete version. I only use that for intranet because it is so old. Some of the internal applications on intranet only work properly with IE not chrome. Don't have permission to install any other browser.

The offer.alibaba.com pop-up phenomenon basically has nothing to do with the site you're browsing at the time.

I have never seen that on AFF (or anywhere else).

Surely if you could just highlight that you are an avid AFF member/geek, the interest from dating sites should disappear?? :)

As pointed out previously, once a browser gets infected with flirchi or alibaba (or whatever) pop-ups, the specific site you happen to be browsing is of basically no relevance.

You may want to try this out: https://www.google.com/chrome/cleanup-tool/ If that doesn't work I'd run adblock which may require contacting your IT department.

This is a corporate environment that uses ad block.

Why continually blame AFF?

It doesn't appear to be a general problem so it could/should relate back to your own setup.

I have referred this to admin though you could have done so yourself.

Because over a number of months, from last year even. Including periods when you well know I wasn't accessing AFF. These things have only ever appeared when I've used AFF. There was a WHOLE month last year when I didn't use AFF at all and this cough never appeared during that time. There appears to be a causal relationship, if only anecdotally.

I believe Post #17 provides me with an outline of Admin's level of concern and standing response.

As pointed out previously, once a browser gets infected with flirchi or alibaba (or whatever) pop-ups, the specific site you happen to be browsing is of basically no relevance.

This is a corporate environment, with ad blocker, and these things only appear when browsing 1 particular website.
Also referring to post #17 which says that visitors may get pop ups. I access this site as a visitor and then decide if I want to log in or not.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Also referring to post #17 which says that visitors may get pop ups. I access this site as a visitor and then decide if I want to log in or not.

And as I said in that post, visitors may get the odd pop-up. Visiting the site as a member (even an unpaid member) doesn't get pop-ups. Your call whether you want to view as a visitor or a member.

You're well aware of why I might be a visitor. I've expressed that clearly via PM. Perhaps you might like to discuss that issue via PM.

And just for clarity this is only an outline of the communication process.

Why continually blame AFF?

As per above, because AFF is to [-]blame[/-]. As confirmed by admin.

Have you set AFF as the default site to open within a new tab or window in your browser? There is one version of the virus that uses that default site as the trigger.

It's not a virus. It's a purposeful thing done by AFF.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spamming

Electronic spamming is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited messages (spam), especially advertising, as well as sending messages repeatedly on the same site. While the most widely recognized form of spam is email spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam,
etc...

no, I'm not allowed to set default sites.

I confirmed that people viewing AFF as VISITORS may see the occasional pop-up and AFF MEMBERS never do. If you want to "blame" AFF for that, thats fine with me. I'll let others make their judgement.

Yes, its not a virus. Its an ad which is occasionally shown to visitors (i.e. non AFF Members). If some think its spam, so be it. There is a real simple solution - simply login to your AFF account!!

You actually mean install a login cookie, don't you? That is the only solution.
I've outlined via PM why that isn't an option. In addition I see that some issues with that process were canvassed in a recently closed thread.

Is it not your choice for this to occur? As it you (AFF) are making it happen. It must be a strange world where the person responsible for a decision isn't held responsible for that decision. Ok then, I don't blame you for your decision.

I'm surprised that the example in post #25 isn't of concern to AFF.
