AFF Member Stock Discussion

It is Labour Day over in WA so it is a long weekend here. It will be carmageddon trying to get back to Perth from the south west matched with double demerits to keep the States finances in great shape.
We can get back to thinking about Myanmar Metals with things getting out of control over there. Great grades but country risk....So sad for the people...

The yield on 10-year US Treasuries, which started the year at 0.91 per cent, spiked from 1.49 per cent to 1.61 per cent on Thursday before ending the week at 1.42 per cent. The Australian 10-year rate jumped 20 basis points to 1.93 per cent on Thursday and was at 1.9 per cent on Friday

Consequences for au shares.. long and short ??

Grim if it keeps rising, according to this article.

Participated in the BOQ entitlement offer, tried using sniip but would not let me, thought it may have been a good way for some extra points on a BPay purchase.

I bought AVH yesterday at $5.60. Up nearly 14% today to $6.56. I think it's got at least another 10% on it.

The futures market is way up so it may be difficult to buy some stocks at their Friday closing prices.
Hoping to get back into a stock we sold a few months ago at a profit. May have to pay more than the Friday closing price of $2.40.

Cove / others are you reducing some of your positions in the sharemarket due to large increases over the last few days?

It seems a bit high and the bond market also increasing in the us.

Any idea what's going on with them today? Currently in a trading pause I see.
I don't know (could be something to do with Greensill which has been in the media recently: Regulator questions lenders over exposure to Greensill). But this is now the lowest share price in around 8 years. So I'm prepared to risk it.
Post automatically merged:

I note this has retraced. If it falls below $4.55, you would want to seriously consider taking a stop loss.
It's volatile. I knew that when I bought in. I'm prepared to ride it out.

Being shorted is part of the game:

It is:

Request for Trading Halt - Insurance Australia Group LimitedPursuant to Listing Rule 17.1, Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG) requests an immediate trading halt with respect to its ordinary shares (ASX:IAG) and its capital notes (ASX: IAGPD). For the purposes of Listing Rule 17.1, IAG provides the following information:a) The trading halt is requested to enable IAG to prepare a disclosure following enquiries regarding the impact of Greensill’s insolvency.

Just returned from Rottnest where the Euroz Hartleys investment seminar is running for 3 days.
Missed going on the Veem boat.
We had some pretty good presentations. Strike Energy, IGO,Austal, Pantoro, Imdex, Ramelius NWH and others presented.
We haven’t been selling. Taxes are due at the end of March so that may slow our market a bit this month.
We did sell IAGPD. Won’t go for IAG. AUB is much better.
We bought Novonix which is NVX. Trying for a profitable trade like last time.
For all those gamers Pentanet are releasing a new technology to be able to run games on old cough computers with amazing results. It appears they have been rushed with orders. We don’t do games on computers so we don’t know if this is hot or not.

Sold Vocus VOC and bought Warrego Energy WGO.
Vocus received a good takeover bid so they jumped. We had been long term holders but the exit price was good to go.
Warrego are drilling to attempt to prove they have a 50% share of a large gas discovery onshore and inexpensive to develop into a fertiliser and gas play.

I bought VOC the Friday before the takeover announcement and sold it on Monday.

Takeovers have a habit of dragging on, receiving revised price offers (sometimes up but sometimes down), leading to the price drifting lower until the takeover happens or doesn't. I took advantage of the initial price jump and was happy with a double digit return in under 24 trading hours.

Always nice to more than double the cost when you get to sell a long term investment. $2.59 to $5.43 was pretty good but there were no dividends during the holding period for Vocus.
The next thing is where to put the funds......

AMA have a new fund shareholder. AMA has been rationalising the car crash repair industry but have not been by people working from home.
We have put in a bid for Lynch Group.
Topping up Perenti shareholding with code PRN.

Novonix, Tyro and Elixir are all having a good day today.
We pulled out of the Lynch Group deal as they changed the proposal.
Was buying Cromwell at 79.5 and didn’t get the full order even though we raised the bid to 80 cents.
