Hi all

Just walked into MEL and was surprised to see enforcement of the removal of aerosols. I have never seen this before for DOM travel in Oz. I didnt have to remove them in SYD yesterday but one of my colleagues did flying out of SYD last week.

Has there been a change recently?

For a while it was hit and miss but recently security in SYD and BNE is always asking if there are any aerosols in my bag and to take them out for separate screening.

The reasoning that they need to check if the lids are on is farcical... On a side topic it was interesting to see the number of mini rexona cans being taken out of bags...

On a flight from Hamilton Island last week security confiscated some spray on cooking oil from a woman on the basis that it was not product that could be applied to the human body.

I also observed security conducting a full pat down on an elderly man which I thought was a disgraceful lack of respect towards Australia's elderly.

I can't understand why a routine pat-down is a smear on every elderly Australian? If you fly, you submit yourself to the indignity of security screening whether you like it or not, and whether you're 5, 40 or 90 years old.

That was exactly my opinion. An 80 year old person could just as easily be smuggling drugs as a 25 year old.

Sceening of aerosols separately happened at mackay on 17/7 but not at BNE 19/7.
