Aeroplan Devaluation - June 2026

Brilliant timing. I need to book my return flights from Japan. So this is perfect. I'm getting a 90% bonus on over 70,000 points.

EDIT: Ok I spoke too soon. Availability Japan to AU is non-existent. I could pay for ZipAir to get to SIN, but even SIN-AU sucks 11 months out.

Best I can find is SIN-DRW-BNE with a 13-hour layover in DRW or SIN-ADL-BNE for 45K and not great timings with overnight flights and not enough time to sleep (sub 6 hours). I guess I'll have to suck it up and book one of these.

Half the advertised partners are non-existent.
No flights to US
Basically no ANA/EVA
No Turkish
No Ethiopian

Prices going up.
Avoid.
True, but VA (QR) wide open on all flights to DOH. Connections onwards on MS to anywhere.

I found BR, business class, from multiple Euro cities to BNE, as long as you stop in TPE for more than 1 day.

Are you getting the full 90% bonus?

Yes it is odd. This is what I see when I log into the points purchasing site. I will report back once I speak to someone at Air Canada.
I'm seeing the same thing. Anyone know what the deal is with this?

This is all pretty common practice, some accounts get lower bonuses (generally, but not always, accounts that have less activity). Points.com allows this level of customisation
Yeah, but the email I received said up to 90%.

Key words being "up to". In this case, it doesn't mean guaranteed. Pretty sneaky, sure, but just reality unfortunately.
I think the ‘up to’ in this case is the incremental bonus depending on the miles purchased. Starts at 40% and tops at 90, depending on how many you buy.

You can’t advertise ‘up to 90%’ if it’s not actually available.

The terms and conditions reflect that.

Ok update - A friend of mine also was in the market for this promotion but didn’t have an Aeroplan account. So he signed up for a brand new Aeroplan account went to purchase the points and BOOM - 90% bonus points! I think my account problem is not that I haven't engaged with the purchase of points through Aeroplan but actually that I do it quite regularly and as a result maybe they feel like they can get away with offering me 75% bonus and I would likely take it anyway. Oh well probably the last time I consider purchasing Aeroplan points for a while with the devaluation looming large.

I buy regularly and got 90%.

Weird.

Just a caution to those thinking that Aeroplan not worth it with the devaluation.

Before buying points, I price the flight(s) I intend to take, then price the number of points to redeem for that. Very often the points cost is a half or less than the revenue ticket cost so even with the deval, buying points may well be worth it. Of course there is the risk that those seats won't be available, but if you can see your redemption, you are often much better off buying points for it.

I haven't done it recently, but I posted up-thread:

Just booked SQ J SIN-MEL on aeroplan points. SQ airfare = A$2,975. Cost of Aeroplan points (incl cash charge) = A$990.

Went back and bought some more!

Can you search for flights without any points?

Can you search for flights without any points?
Yes you can. You must log in, but you don't need to have the requisite points to be able to search.

Yes I agree but award seats (on SQ) to Europe are really only available at the "edit of the booking window" which doesn't always suit your planning. Nevertheless - we have had many great award flights on SQ (both using AC points and SQ points).
