aero mexico cancellations

I found out from a friend in the US that an Areo Mexico connecting flight i was taking from LAX (to Puerto Pensaco) had been cancelled. I have had heard nothing from Areo Mexico about this and would have been livid if i found this out at the LAX AM counter after the long haul from Sydney. Do any other airlines stay quiet when flights are cancelled? I would be keen to know which ones to avoid booking them in the future.
