Advice on whisky

I try to avoid buying overseas spirits if I can avoid it, prefer to spend local.

Best Aussie whiskey? Some of the Tasmanian ones are incredible.

I also just discovered Gospel Whiskey (Vic) has anyone else tried?

OZ whisky is much more pricey. Haven't tried Gospel but Hellyers Road is good. Sullivan's Cove is way way high and the double cask that I bought is quite ordinary.

The Whiskey Club has been championing quite a few Australian whiskeys recently. This month's whiskey of the month is a Bill Lark special crafted for the club. They also have a "opt-in" of Bakery Hill Belgain Barley. I just finished off the December whiskey of the month, Iniquity Single Malt from South Australia.

One of my favourite Aussie whiskey distillers is Hellyers Road in Tasmania.

Had a Hellyers Road Port Cask aged 12 years the other day and it was delicious. Far too easy to drink

Agreed, along with wine and gin too. It's rarely justified, IME.

Disagree (IME of course - taste is very subjective and no one is wrong!)

I also prefer to support local business over giant multinationals pumping out hundreds of thousands of bottles on factory lines as well.

How's the Iniquity? Which batch?

I discovered Gospel drinking an old fashioned on the weekend. The Gospel Whiskey | Melbourne Distillery

Amazing, had some neat as a follow up to get the full flavour.

It was a special called "The Whiskey Club Christmas Edition". The club has been working with distillers around the world to source special one-off crafted editions for the members.

Here is the image from the email received describing it back in December, note the direct reference the club printed on the bottle.

During the last few months, we have enjoyed Aerstone 10yo malt, both the Sea Cask and Land Cask.
At about $50-$60, they are good value.

Is there an associated whisky or spirits bargains/specials thread similar to the wine one? I'm happy to contribute to where to get particular whiskies. I am a scotch guy myself but do have aus/jap and the occasional bourbon.

This is currently the only whisky thread. As the title is "Advice on Whisky" it would not be off-topic to have such discussion on bargains/specials right here in this thread. If the topic takes off with a life of its own (which I think would be a good thing) then I'll split it off into a separate thread. So everyone can feel to post specials/bargains of all types of whisky into this thread for now.

Do post any good deals.
Normally I purchased/learned of deals from TheWhiskyList, Nicks, Boozebud.
Whisky deals are not so common as for wines.
The last bottle I bought was Old Ballantruan 15 from Nicks last week. Not a price reduction but good reviews and sold out everywhere.

I am still waiting for Sullivan's Cove email to purchase Winter's Feast.

$131.96 if bought from Dan's eBay store with this promo ;)
I bought this a few years ago $150/1 litre Sydney Airport after being named Whisky of the Year by Jim Murray.
How it got the award is beyond me!
It's not bad and definitely not superb. Just have about 3/4 bottle left.
