Enjoy P1 status for a while and need another 455 SC before end of March.
QFF refuses to extended period with a month (as I have 4 international business class legs in April booked which would give me the required SCs to renew P1)

Any advice on:
- what the cheapest and best way to do a status run
- status match with other carriers (as I am honestly a bit upset that they didnt want to extend for 1 month)

Thanks

Re: Advise on Status Run

How much are you willing to spend? A status run for 455 SCs would be several thousand dollars at least, is P1 really worth that much?

Re: Advise on Status Run

Maybe you're right and its not worth the effort. Thinking back what I got out of it:
- Bottle of champagne at Christmas
- Invited to a game of football in the Qantas lounge
- Received about 10 upgrades to first/business with points in 12 months
- Paid on average 10% more for business class flights than with VA :)

I also noticed that Emirates doesnt want to do a status match when you're QFF. And no response from VA so far.

Re: Advise on Status Run

So you're based in SYD?

Can you position to somewhere overseas e.g. the US or do you need to stay in Australia?

How much time do you have to do the flying for the run?

SYD-BNE-CNS in J return would give 200 SC for example. MEL-BNE-CNS in J return gives 240 SC

You should keep an eye out for bonus status credits offers. Won't help for P1 this year ending March, but if one comes along it may help you get to P1 another year (provided the bonus SC offer does not exclude earning towards P1). Last year in April there was a double status credits offer covering flying through to mid-April this year. There may not be one every year but it's good to keep a look out for an offer.

Can go anywhere for a few days

SYD-BNE-CNS could work if I do it 2 days in row ;)

Re: Advise on Status Run

280 SC in Qantas to get to the 2700 required.
So, it's gunna cost - at this short a notice, it is difficult to get SC's at less than $10 each.

A PE weekend run to JFK with a some discounted First/Business travel within the USA could be the simplest timewise.

Three Business/First return trips to NZ with one of the regular sales will nett a minimum of 480 SC's.

Re: Advise on Status Run

If you have a few days MEL-SYD-CGK return is 320SC for ~$2300. I suppose you could find some intra-asia flying to make up the rest of the 455

Re: Advise on Status Run

Sorry, my mistake. I dont need any of those to be on QF. I forgot I got a QF return ticket to SIN in J soon that will get me there.

If your only upgrades were actually a point spend -- then the answer would seem to be No. Only benefit I can see is a soft landing to WP so if your travel plans for the following year are unlikely to get you to WP then it would be worth it -- otherwise don't bother.

QF have made it quite clear that P1 is a defined level and it's a hard level (as in they won't budge even if you're 2SC short). Changes like the Loyalty Bonus SC's *not* counting to P1 status underscore the intent to keep this limit.

It may really upset you that they're holding the line here, but I am quite glad they are being consistent here.. and 455 SC (plus 280 on QF) is hardly really close to it.

I realise this is a side issue here to the question of the thread, but I think it's great there's a line here and QF are (for a change!) being consistent in enforcing it.

I also would imagine EK/QF have an agreement to not poach (via status match) their customers.. (as an aside, EK are not shy to push skywards onboard to F elites when they see you are one, so that's kind of going on anyway).

and honestly, if you're willing to jump ship via status match because of this then QF probably made the right decision anyway IMHO (sorry that seems harsh, but the reality is you can be tempted away so easily you're probably not the droid they're looking for).

Anyway onto positive things to help you :)

455 is a fair amount to attain in a month - Budget will be an issue (for example you could do a SYD-SIN in F r/t fare plus a domestic hop and get there but it would set you back a fair whack).. As suggested SYD-BNE-CNS r/t could work x2, or possibly a trans-tasman trip on EK (QF codeshare) though the good sale just finished last week (and there's currently no ex-NZ sale fare that I can see).

Possibly SYD-BKK r/t on QF/EK then a MH fare from there would get you most of the way there (though a bit short on the QF requirements).

It will mean $$$ and hours on aircraft extra for benefits that probably aren't worth the price - you MAY or may not get invites from P1 team, you may get some op ups or not... SST are OK when things go bad, but that's rare (hopefully).

Is the benefit worth it? Only you can decide.

good luck :)

Re: Advise on Status Run

If you haven't booked a run yet then the DSC offer for everyone could be quite attractive. Under DSC you could go there once in J rather than twice. At half the cost of what it would've been otherwise to achieve your goal this is much better value.

Re: Advise on Status Run

DSC trip in F to Auckland will get you at least 480 SC depending on where you start in Oz.
