Hi All. This is my first post to the forum and would like any advice you can offer with changing the return leg of a Singapore to Melb via Sydney award booking. 3 pax traveling: Mr, Mrs and 5yr old. We had intended to visit family in Hanoi this July and managed to get QF economy award seats (says X after the word Economy in the booking) to Sing on 1/5 and Business award (U) seats Sing-Sydney-Melbourne on 16/5 and into morning of 17/5. All up 270,000 pts. Separate bookings were made for Sing-Hanoi business class with Vietnam Airlines and these are refundable or can be used within 12mths. Family in Hanoi have advised against coming in July due to worries with outbreaks of disease, measles, malaria etc. We have non refundable hotel accommodation in Singapore on 1/5 to 4/5 inclusive and would like to either spend some extra time there till 8/5 or go Sing-KL on 5/5 and KL-Melbourne on 8/5. I have just spent 2hrs searching different options through the QF website, including all variations on hops back to oz: sing-Perth, sing-bris and then onwards home to Melb...and fully understand there is very little available being Bronze. We have another 45,000 pts in our combined accounts that could be used. Any thoughts before I pick up the phone to Qantas?
Thanks in advance, J

Unfortunately there's not much that can be done with award seats. If there are none available then you're out of luck :(

I personally wouldn't worry about travel to HAN anytime of the year. It's never even crossed my mind before during travel across Asia.

Speak to your travel insurance company. They will be able to tell you what is and isn't covered and whether there is a current warning/travel advisory for HAN.

This shows why you should always book your ticket and TI within the same five minute period because you're generally covered immediately.

Family is the reason we go N860CR. Hugs from Grandma and Grandpa for my 5yr old is one of many reasons we HAVE to visit HAN regularly. Skyping just doesn't compare. J

My two cents - 1) visit your DR take all the precautions you can and go anyway - Brisbane has an outbreak of measles at the moment - lots of parents refuse vaccinations and with "tourists" coming and going I feel some of these nasties will come back around anyway 2) lie to your parents and say your not coming and then surprise them - they only live once.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks deejo77 and Sprucegoose for the replies and shared sentiments on 'family' and 'do it'. It is not easy doing the 'family' thing when the family is not just down the road or across the state border (and I know many of you on this site deal with these same issues as the vh-scd family).

After a lot of soul-searching, phone calls to HAN and checking all flight options I have managed to cancel the SIN-HAN-SIN flights, keep the SIN mini break plans in place for the mrs (shopping) and 5yr old (Zoo etc.), re-route back early from SIN to MEL through Perth (Econ SIN-PER and Bus PER-MEL - all with the help of a very friendly Qantas call centre rep). Now, working towards bringing the HAN family to visit us in MEL in January/February (esp so the tennis-mad Father-in-law can see some Aus Open).

Once again,
THANKS
