where does 1st choice list chardonnay for Taittinger?
I made an error with all my Googling, which I would of accepted if he hadn't been so rude towards me. I do accept I was wrong, now I can't even recall how I saw Chardonnay.

Might want to take a look at Please Verify Your Age | Piper-Heidsieck Take a pick of whatever vintage you like

Let's not let the facts get in the way of that though.
In all fairness, I deleted that. I got confused with the NV and corrected it by removing it.

Has anyone done a Piper NV/vintage tasting? Can almost get two NV for the price of one vintage.

Over the past 6 months I've been through most of the champagne's on the First Choice list, not sure whether it's good or not to say I have about half of their range in stock at home! I'm thinking I might move onto rosé and see what's around. I lack a lot of knowledge in this area, fairly sure my full rosé tasting experience consists of Canard Duchene and Croser. From what I've read Laurent Perrier is a good one to try here, might get something else while I wait for that to go on special.

In an attempt to get this thread back on track what is the best value champagne or sparkling wine under $100 in Australia right now?

For me, I wouldn't go near Piper NV. It's the pits.

Tattinger NV is Chardonnay, Piper Vintage is Pinot.

You could of worded it better, I wasn't commenting on how knowledgeable I am/was on Champagne.

You clearly stated that one is all Chardonnay and the other Pinot. You didn't attribute a source. You made an incorrect claim and I called you out on it. I'll say that I'm sorry if you felt that I attacked you and have hurt your feelings in any way.

Defining value is hard. But I'd put Charlies Heidsieck on on that list (attainable at $90 or even a bit less). I also think Jacquesson Brut Cuvee 7xx is right up there too. Should be able to get that at under $100. Another one I'd put in the great value under $100 bucket is Marc Chavaut NV at $39.

I was refraining from posting a negative comment.
But agree. The PH NV would never NEVER on my list.

Just to clarify, we were talking about the PV vinage (not that I recall trying it or can comment on what it's like).

It may be of some interest to note that Piper Brut 2014 scored a 98 Platinum during the recent Decanter Wine Awards. the 2012 scored a 97. A very respectable score (FWIW).

Incidentally - 45% Chardonnay, 55% Pinot Noir for the 2014 and 48% Chardonnay, 52% Pinot Noir for the 2012.

;)

Agree re CH - one of my faves, prefer it to Pol Roger/Bollinger/Louis Roederer NVs et al

Looks like I'm easily satisfied compared to the more discerning crowd here 😋

Charles Heidsieck and Marc Chauvet have been on my list for a while, will need to source a bottle of each for some important testing.

That would be remiss of you. One data point doesn't make a trend. More vigorous testing is strongly encouraged :)

It's also a bit of a step up in price though, but well worth the investment if funds allow. The other three you mentioned are all class acts IMHO.

Anyone have any thoughts on the cellardoor.co champagne

Marquis de la Mystèriale Champagne?

I picked up a pack but generally enjoy billicart rose and NV on the odd occasion I'm drinking bubbles.

enjoy billicart rose
Funny you should mention that, decided to pick up a bottle today, have you got some recommendations rosé wise? How do you find it compared to the Laurent Perrier? I've read great things about both, also keen to try the Piper Heidsieck Rosé I have, interesting tasting notes of strawberry and vanilla.
