Hi all - we're travelling through Europe in December and I am struggling with Berlin hotels. I'm mainly tossing up between the 2 Sofitels and the Grand Hyatt. Does anyone have experience with any of these 3 properties and/or can give advice on which Sofitel and/or can give advice around the best location? Many thanks

Can't help you with either three property; however we stayed at the Westin Grand Berlin and that's pretty central I think. You're within a 15minute walking radius to most of the things you need - shops, restaurants, bars, tourist sites. Looking at the map, the closest property you are considering is the Sofitel Berlin Gendarmenmarkt.

can't comment on sofitel or grand hyatt...
fwiw, we stayed at the michelberger :) that's what berlin is about...

I haven't stayed at any one those, but the best location would be the Sofitel at Gendarmenmarkt, which is close to the city centre, Unter den Linden, museum island, Checkpoint Charlie etc. and Gendarmenmarkt itself is very nice. A close second for location would be the Grand Hyatt on Potsdamer Platz. Not quite as central but walking distance from the Brandenburg Gate and good public transport links.

Depending on your budget, have you looked at the Hotel Adlon? Easily the best and most famous hotel in Berlin. :)

We stayed at the Sofitel at Gendarmenmarkt in January this year and would highly recommend it. Great location and it was a great stay and would be more then happy to stay there again if/when we go back to Berlin.

Any location in Berlin is decent if it's near a U bahn or S bahn station as the services are so frequent you can get anywhere quickly virtually any time day or night.

havent stayed at any of those hotels but Sofitel is near Zoologischer Gardens which is a major train station so easy to get everywhere and there's express bus to/from the airport from there too.

Recently stayed at the Melia Berlin on Friedrichstrasse with views over the river Spree. As good as any Sofitel I've stayed at. Great location. Easy walk to a lot of the significant historic sites like the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag , Museum Island etc. Restaurants and shopping all round. Near the main Friedrichstrasse train station.

Thanks all for the advice. Looking to use my leclub points or at worst hyatt points for this stay, hence interest in those properties. I was leaning towards the Sofitel Gendarmenmarkt, this has been helpful confirmation.

We have some more luxe stays on the trip including the Shangri-la London, Andaz Amsterdam, Four Seasons Prague, a LHOTW near Innsbruck to ski and the Park Hyatt Vienna.

I walked past the Four Seasons in Prague this afternoon. It looked really nice.

Stayed at Hampton by Hilton. Very happy with my choice. 5 mins from Zoo Gardens transport hub and some nice places to eat. I would certainly stay there again.

Got even cheaper at Waldorf Astoria nice views very central and balmy weather right now

There is a brand new hotel Leonardo very close to Friedricke strasse
