Hi there,
Can some one familar with Main Deck and Upper Deck cabins on a B A 747-400 assist me with seating for my wife and self.
Seat Guru recommends 20 E&F for access but one seat is taken. Can you help with advice on seats E&F rows 17 to 19?
Can you get past fellow passengers when sleeping to access the aisle?
Alternately we thought 62 J&K Upper Deck, but can you freely converse with your partner on the forward/backward
seating arrangement on these planes?
We both like to access the aisle during long flights without the need to disturb your fellow travellers when the seats are fully
extended, so your help will be greatly appreciated to enable us to lock in our seating while it is fairly open.
Best regards,
gburns

re upper deck,62J/K should be fine to converse (if you leave the privacy screen down!)

62K easy aisle access as faces backwards onto exit.
62J on aisle but would have 61K 'climbing' over if they need to get out

Not sure re E/F main deck

I know Princess Fiona prefers 64A (thus would put Shrek in 64B?) due to privacy and space. Any of the ying yang seats are ok for conversation - in fact maybe better as you are looking at each other rather than side by side.

Had 62K travelling solo LHR-JFK last year. It would be good for a couple - I know this because the period before the dividing screen went up was slightly awkward!

There are plenty of negative opinions on here about the BA product and staff but I enjoyed the seat and service.

This response might probably be a little late, but my wife and I fly often on the 747 SYD-LHR with BA and we always pick 17 E & F as they are the cosiest seats in J class in that downstairs cabin. Yes, its near the galley and toilet, but you never get any noise from it at all and its in the row furthest away from the Y cabin. The upstairs cabin seats are facing each other and aren't that nice for travelling together in our opinion.

Thx for your reply, we originally selected 20 E/F but one seat was taken. Can you access the aisle if passengers in 18 D/J are sleeping without disturbing them?
As a fit and healthy long term prostate cancer survivor, one of the side effects is more frequent trips to the rest room. Small price to pay for good health, but
I am always concious of my fellow travellors.

I look forward to your reply.

It would probably be more annoying for you having to climb over the legs of the sleeping person. I never had a problem with it personally and I tend to use the bathroom white frequently too, mainly because I like to keep well hydrated on long haul flights and tend to drink way too much water. Since you are climbing over the feet of the sleeping person you don't really disturb them. Also, I would say on more than half of the flights we have been on at least one if the seats on each side was free so there was easy aisle access as I'd rather climb over my wife or have her climb over me than a stranger. Hope that helps.

We have done quite a few trips in BA CW and our preference now is for 64AB (first we tried 17EF and 62JK a couple of times). From 64A you also have very easy unrestricted access to the bathroom. Only down point of this seat is that you are last for meal service.

Can see your point but would have 63A climbing over 64B, not a fan of being disturbed in the middle of sleep. I guess 63A could squeeze out between the seat and window into the exit row but they may not take that option.

YMMV

I'll have to ask SWMBO if she ever had an issue with that, can't remember her mentioning anything about it.

Totally agree with these suggestion. In regards to the forward/backward seat configuration I believe it makes it even easier to communication then normal seat setups, you look the person in the eye when talking.

64AB also means close to the restroom which I jet is something positive in your case.

Only problem with forward/backward seats is if you put up the privacy screen you might get in trouble once off the plane :)
