ADL International - No QF Lounge!

I was shocked when transiting through ADL between HKG and MEL on CX last week to find there is no QF lounge available :shock: . In fact the only lounge is a Kris lounge! The facilities in the international section are really quite sparse.

I'm really glad I do not board for international flights in ADL.

Internaional PAX use the domestic QP in ADL.
 
The domestic lounge doesn't help a connecting pax with lounge access though. Can't see them heading out through customs and back into the secure area for ~1 - 2 hours.

The old Intl secure area lounge was rubbish though from what I remember. Nothing like a shoebox completely full of pax to make your stay enjoyable :shock:

As Mal said, this is not that great an option when transiting. I can just imagine the crush at immigration just before the flight leaves :mad: .

I guess QF have done the numbers and a QP in the international terminal just isn't justified.

I guess some clarity is needed; reference was to international PAX departing ADL.

As for crush, that happens in many places; one just need to be aware and depart the lounge some minutes earlier. I'll check this weekend but I believe the Announce these flights in the lounge with this in mind.

As for transferring PAX, specifically International to International, there would be very few as far as Qantas is concerned. Maybe QF81 once a week and QF82 twice a week.

Now that the Darwin stopover is being dropped, it might be a more attractive alternative from melbourne to singapore in the future!

Apart from the DRW stopover dropped I also thought, and I may be mistaken, that this flight would be purely an ADL-SIN three times weekly. No onward flight to SYD or MEL or vice versa as QF81 or QF82.

The ADL-SYD/MEL vv. repositioning flights will be kept due to the need to source the aircraft from somewhere. As ADL has no other widebody Qantas international flights there is a need for aircraft to be flown from other States.

QF could decide to fly it empty between (for example) SYD-ADL, but why bother when you could be filling it...

I know they need to reposition the aircraft but I thought they were doing away with QF81/82 flight numbers to anywhere other than ADL-SIN. So the SYD-ADL repositioning would not have QF81 flight number.

Anywhere I am probably mistaken and thanks for the information.

No real reason why it has to be repositioned - they could easily roster the aircraft as SYD-SIN-ADL-SIN-SYD or something similiar.

Actually, this week I had been looking for SIN - MEL flights in late August and this option kept coming up.

QF81 MEL-ADL-SIN Saturdays and QF82 SIN-ADL(+1)-MEL Tues, Thurs & Sat.

Note in a similar vein are HKG flights QF188/QF187 with MEL-SYD and SYD-MEL on Mondays.

May not be a good idea for this particular instance as the ADL-SIN flights are only on Tue, Thu and Sat returning Wed, Fri and Sun mornings so the aircraft could be sitting idle in ADL for 1-2 days unless you used it to go somewhere else.
