re: ADL Dinner & Drinks 31st Oct 2015

Last chance to add your name to the list if you want to attend. I will be confirming numbers with the restaurant tonight.

Oh, and while I haven't updated the list above, Newk is coming.

Thanks :)

There's currently one extra seat, and when I called to confirm the numbers the girl didn't sound like she was even taking notes on what I was saying or who I was so I dont think they are too concerned. Just confirm either way if you can ASAP in case anyone else wants changes also.

If 2 of Buzz's +3 are who I think they are you can move me to the "No way in Hell list". Unfortunately, all the other wonderful people attending can not make me want to be around people who have made threats against me.

I'd rather keep the ten bucks and have pizza and wine on my back deck!

Sounds like a great offer. When and where?

re: ADL Dinner & Drinks 31st Oct 2015

I'm trying to arrange to be able to come for a drink at 5.30. Still bronze for dinner though.

re: ADL Dinner & Drinks 31st Oct 2015

As would I, but not appropriate in this context.

Yes it was rude of me and certainly not intended to relate to this great event (let's face it, the company is far more important than a corkage charge). I was just surprised!

Buzz's extra's are friends of his who have nothing to do with frequent flying, so I am hoping that will mean you will come :)

If that's the case*, I'll look at drinks. Dinner would be a no go. Been at home about 3 days in the last 4 weeks. Compensated by getting to go to North Korea last week, for about 3 minutes.

* I was probably confused by something from the actual wine tour thread and the state of my memory. Sorry Buzz.

If I come for a drink I wonder if Newk will show up after I've left, like last time :p:p

No probs. Look forward to catching up and introducing you to my + other 2.

Agreed. That $10 corkage doubles the price of $10 bottle of wine.

Best to pay the in restaurant price of $45 for that $10 bottle then, to avoid the $10 corkage. It seems so obvious.

re: ADL Dinner & Drinks 31st Oct 2015

OT, but I once paid $25 corkage at Jolleys Boathouse  on a bottle of duty free champagne.

OT as well, but the colloquial term "come in spinner" springs to mind!
I've been thinking about it and the last time I was at a BYO (a nice little Thai on Chevron Island), +1 and I shared a bottle of Moët and there was no corkage at all. That was late last year. I can see how a restaurant can justify some sort of corkage, to cover broken glasses, washing up, etc, but $25 a bottle is simply ripping off your customers IMHO and those establishments will not get any of my money unless I'm desperate.

One difference I noticed in moving to Adelaide from Brisbane is that corkage in Queensland was normally charged per head. e.g. $2/$3 per head, which can lead to arguments when people don't drink the BYO wine. I'd been to dinners with 10 people, with 3 or 4 sharing one BYO bottle, resulting in corkage of $20. Whereas the Adelaide/SA system is per bottle, which would be better in the previous example, $10 instead of $20 and no arguments about "I didn't drink the wine".

Swings and roundabouts but I think the per bottle system is better.

Another thing about SA is that most places allow BYO wine even when licensed to sell booze. Even the local chinese takeaway in Roxby Downs was allowed BYO wine.

Shrek will be home alone on Sat night as I'm returning from Retro Roo LRE flight. He'd love to join the dinner if there's space. Fingers crossed :)

Shrek is in :)

I just called up and added an extra seat - only to remember that medhead isnt staying for dinner and so there was an extra seat anyway! Whoops. So still an extra spot if there are any more takers.
