Hello,
Has anyone added their middle name to their QF FF profile ?
(We all know QF only includes our first and last name)
If i decide to add my middle name to my profile, which field should i put it on the name change request form ?
Under the First or Preferred name field ?
Thank you.

Is there a reason you are wanting to do this as in most cases it makes little or no difference to bookings.

I thought it was better to be safe than sorry, especially if using QF points to redeem partner award tickets, and if flying to USA, but based on what i have read here and on Flyertalk, it seems like just having the correct first and last names are good enough. Thanks to all replies.

To be completely safe it should match whatever is on your passport. In my case, my passport just has first and last name since there is no legal requirement for a passport to contain a middle name if you have one.

Are the issues people talking about to do with the name on the frequent flyer profile, or the name on the e-ticket? You can always have your full name on the e-ticket, and a slightly different one on your FF card.

Corporate booking agents always seem to put names through a blender and it's never been an issue for me. EG typically first name becomes "MR FIRSTMIDDLE" on the e-ticket. Family name always exactly correct.

Not a problem to add middle name if you book and pay but if its a classic reward its booked in your ff profile name automatically, and when I booked over the phone, I had to add my middle name to my profile before they could manually book the classic reward. It seems that JAL doesn't always enforce this but their website say ticket should match passport including middle name. Flown with AA / Finn air / emirates with no problem with only first / last name, but for me wasn't worth the risk with JAL, especially with 4 flights

We had two flights on JAL recently and middle names not present on our e-ticket (both mine and my partner's) - no issues whatsoever (not even any commentary on it). Don't think this is really a problem despite what it says on the web site.

You can definitely change the name of the person when booking online for a classic reward flight. I do this all the time when redeeming my points for family members.

Which operating airlines were you flying on those changed name reward

Edit: my bad, I thought kpro was changing names after making a booking, which I think is only possible on qantas award on qantas metal.

I think kpro is saying you can change the pre-populated name that comes up when booking an award in your profile.

rather than booking for ‘you’, the name can be changed to a family member (at the time of booking).

As an aside, before CheckMyTrip junked their Golden Goose, there was an issue of matching some bookings if your middle names was missing from the CMT profile ie ticket numbers and other stuff didn’t display if the booking included middle name/initial.

Academic now that CMT is basically useless now 😔 but apparently some systems do like/want it.

Amusingly, about seven years ago, Immigration at Saigon had a problem when I tried to board my Singapore Air flight. My boarding pass printed my honorific (Prof) and, of course, my passport didn't. Immigration was under the impression that the honorific was my first name and that didn't match the name on my passport. After lengthy explanations, I was allowed to board (with a stern warning).

I have never had an issue with not including middle name. In Japan I once had a JAL check-in agent add my middle name to the boarding pass, by writing it on with a pen.
