Adding *G number to SQ booking

I'm trying to add my newly minted TK *G number to a SQ booking (which is actually a VA reward ticket).

The only option I get is KrisFlyer. I tried to log an assistance request, but because it's a non-SQ booking, it says take it up with your agent. VA don't have an option to add TK numbers.

Is this really the case where you can't add other programs on SQ's website? That seems really odd. Any tips for contacting SQ to do this?

Krisflyer awards do not permit non KrisFlyer numbers to be entered on app or web site.

I recently booked an award using Velocity points and made sure I took the opportunity at that point to enter my Velocity FF number as I knew it would be problematic after.

Your best bet is at the check in counter or lounge on departure.

I have had about 5% success using Web form help and 0% success by calling.

They can add it at checkin but yep, it’s a PITA prior for reward seats.

I‘m not aware of an rj.com equivalent hack.

I've asked this before, but will try again: Is there a Star Alliance equivalent to RJ for OneWorld, where you can do all sorts of things to bookings of that alliance? Edit - just saw SYD's post. Hope we can draw one out.

So they won't even add it if you phone them?

And people complain about QF IT. My *A experiences so far have been dreadful - SA does give you an option to add a frequent flyer number, it just doesn't do anything.

I wonder if VA will add it if I call up?

Worth a try.

Wow, I can't believe how hard this is.

Called VA - they can only enter numbers of their partners, and because TK is not their partner, they can't.

Called SQ - initially told no, then told to call TK to do it (I knew that wasn't right), then told to call VA (told them I did), then told just do it at check in.

Then for my SA (revenue) booking - nothing to do with VA, booked through SA directly - agent complained as if I'd asked for her first child. Said she didn't think she could do it, then she had a go. Said "I don't think that worked, just put a claim in to TK after your flight".

To her credit, it actually did work.

I've never had this much trouble with any oneworld airline. I'm guessing it's true what they say that oneworld is a closer alliance than the other two. Will never complain about QF IT again.

Does the Air Dolomiti website work, by any chance? (It probably won't in this specific case, but perhaps worth trying anyway?)

FWIW yes, I've had similar problems many times in the past with Star Alliance. As a last resort, you can always add/change the frequent flyer number at check-in.

No, tried both the SQ and VA PNRs and neither worked. I also tried my SA PNR (different booking) and that didn't work either.

I'm still shocked that the SQ call centre can't do it.

Are you in J on SQ?

I tried again this morning on live chat, since I saw someone on FT had luck with this.

The comment I got:
"Apologies, since we are restricted from adding frequent flyer number for other airlines offline due to security reasons. I can remove your Velocity account here, so that you can add your Turkish Airlines frequent flyer number online afterwards."

Security concerns? That's a bit of a stretch...

Anyway he thought that I would be able to enter it myself, but same as before, can only enter SQ. But at least my VA number is gone, which I assume might make that easier at check in.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I wouldn't stress, the number of times I've flown SQ on redemption tickets (some issued by VA, SQ, UA and SK) and not been able to update the FF number is frustrating however I've never had a problem showing up at check in and getting them to fix it. SQ operated lounges can also update it and reprint boarding passes.

A couple of months in Brisbane the queue for the J/*G counter was long and the kiosk didn't offer the ability to update (I was carry on only) so I just went to the lounge where the updated the booking and reprinted boarding passes.

I actually have a future booking HKT-SIN on SQ operated booked using UA miles. I was surprised that UA let me add my VA number!

This is because it's a UA partner, that being said have you checked on the SQ website to see if that VA number is actually coming through, in my past experience the number from UA hasn't transferred through to SQ so I've had to add it at check in anyway.

Yes and I believe the VA Gold let me select better seats. Although I tried to ask a question clarifying that in the SQ Tips&Traps thread but it was quickly got washed away by SQ F Suite champagne and caviar posts…. 😳

Edit: it’s showing in my SQ app (even though no SQ number). But not obvious if VA# has come across. I must have done seat selection via UA (which shows VA#. I’ll look again on the website when I finish my Bintang and head back to the hotel…

Keen to hear more about this... So on the SQ manage booking under passenger details it shows the VA number? but then better seats?

Assuming you UA award is in Y, then it'd book into SQ X class which comes with standard seat selection. Did it let you pick a "Foward Zone", "Extra Legroom" seat otherwise nothing out of the ordinary.

Nah, doesn’t appear that VFF details have come across on SQ. Seat selection on SQ is limited to “Standard” seats for free and the upfront seats are pay to play. UA just shows the pay to select seats as blocked. So probably zip benefits bestowed from VA Gold as it currently stands.

Yep this is my experience with UA ticketed SQ operated, you'll need to ask at counter check in (online/mobile/kiosks don't work) for it to be updated.

As before, "standard" is still free on X economy redemption fares (for now...) so no benefits there. SQ doesn't offer any additional seating benefits to *G (or other Gold partners) with their own Gold FF's getting upfront seats for free.

Well, you answered one or more of Q’s in the SQ thread about whether I’d loose my seats when I drop from VA Gold to Silver before I fly - apparently not. So that’s good.

One of us might fire off a UA SM to get lounge access in HKT - assuming VA don’t comp me (highly unlikely)….but sounds like that won’t bestow much else in air but J checkin and priority boarding will also be handy.
