Hey Folks,

Does anyone know if you've had a Jet* booking made for you as just as starter fare if you can go into the manage your booking and pay for a plus bundle to earn status credits etc after the original fare has been booked?

No, you are required to purchase an entirely new fare. Don't bother attempting to get a rational explanation from them as I did. It's easier to take your business elsewhere.

I have also tried, with much the same bad taste in my mouth afterwards.

If Jet* was a bit more open to these sorts of things I'm sure they'd have more customers. Whenever I'm able, I advise the company travel agent to ensure she does not book me on Jet* anymore. I've managed to only have to fly with them once in the last 6 months.

There's a sound business reason why Jetstar don't do this, and that's that the plus bundle offers free changes. If they allowed people to add the bundle in later it (ie when they wanted to change) it would undermine their (usually higher than plus bundle) change fees.

It is a shame they don't have an option of adding in a bundle later without the "no change fee" benefit.

The only option would be to have a stand alone bundle to earn QFF points at an appropriate price point amongst the current product mix. No doubt the marketing guru's have assessed this option and deemed it to be a basket case option.

I was under the impression (though only enquired, never followed through) that you could add the Plus bundle, but would need to pay their ridiculous change fee as well, so the total would actually be quite high, possibly (if short haul and on a sale fare) as much as buying a new fare with Plus bundle. In the end, the change fee dissuaded me from going ahead, but maybe I was given the wrong info altogether?

That's sounds right. IIRC plus bundle is a different fare bucket.

I tried to add the Plus bundle - and was told that I couldn't do it, even paying the change fee.

I would've had to buy a whole new ticket.

This was for Asia Jetstar.

Sounds like a good way to make more money... but alienate customers. While that's fine under JQs model of new customers only, eventually they'll need to think about loyalty. Because even a touch of loyalty will add recurring customers. Are you reading this Jetstar?

Nah, loyalty doesn't retain customers, sale fares that cost 60% of a VA or QF fare does!

They've been at it for 10 years now.

They're target is the price-sensitive, not the loyal.....

Yes. But it won't be forever.

For example, bogans become new-age-bogans and might not take the level of service anymore.

It'll happen. The business model will adapt.

The model has adapted... They removed priority boarding from the plus bundle...

I did manage to add a Plus bundle to my dad's original Starter fare on Jet*Asia (3K) so he can earn points on my behalf! This was through the call centre with the associated fees. But the points have still not been credited and 3K is not listed in the online Qantas missing points claim form. So I'll have to write in instead...
