Points expiry and strategy question.

Have 8500 points, due to expire end September. No planned activity or stays coming up.

Want to book a full flex rate in Feb next year, and there’s an option for me to use 8000 points to offset the cost.

If i cancel that booking hiwever, say in Feb next year, those 8000 points will have technically expired, and according to google, I may lose them entirely?

Strategy… should I donate the excess 500 miles, which then extends the life of all the points to at least June 2027… THEN book my night using points… so if I cancel later they all go back nice and protected?

That would work.

Alternatively, assuming you have Amex Plat, you can manually transfer 2500 MR points (minimum transfer) in for 500 Accor points. This would also reset points expiry fir another 12 months.

You are correct in that you will lose them if you cancel after the expiry date.
If you want to retain those points you need to extend the expiry which as you said can be done by donating them or do a small transfer in

Your points extend in lifespan if you simply earn or redeem any. And for Accor, you can transfer CC points, sign up and do a survey (it's boring, but I've done this), or look into airline mile transfers. Good luck! But you have more options than a donation tbh

Thanks for the replies!

Appreciate there are other options than donating them, however I think any points I have in other programs are better used in those programs rather than Accor.

I’d rather transfer my amex points to an airline program for example given I rarely use Accor hotels (I like Hilton better with free brekkie!)

Any QF flights on the immediate horizon?

Do you have e-Rewards? 2000 pts converts to 275 ALL Accor (not one of the better ones, but will keep your ALL points alive).

Pretty sure there’s other cheap and cheerful options. Dining?
