Accor Plus Membership Discussion

I agree fully. I'd never achieve a high enough status on nights alone. I only started at Accor properties thanks to the Accor Plus from the Amex card. Quickly realised that it doesnt take much to achieve platinum status. Gold is a bit pointless as doesn't get you much above silver.
Indeed - I’ve just decided to make the shift recently, after walking away from Bonvoy, who only offer a path through nights, and where my >$20K spend last year was only enough for the very underwhelming Bonvoy Silver status, based on room nights.

Keeping on topic, I’m trying to decide the right point and right country to buy into Accor+, as I don’t expect I’ll need the dining discount to start with in ZQN, but there are a few options in SIN where it might come in handy with our little family.

Cheers,
Matt.

Yes - it would seem to me as a new starter to ALL that status points is a much easier path to status in this part of the world? I’ve got stays in NZ & SG coming up and will be Platinum after just 9 nights based on spend. Clearly these are expensive nights, but still…
Yep, I maintained Diamond easily last year on spend but not nights and this year will be similar

I’m interested in the Amex Platinum card, which include Accor+, but I’m struggling to find any information on the AccorPlus site around cruise deals. They state it as a benefit, however I’m wondering if anyone can share any experience with cruise deals they’ve been able to get through the Accor+ program?

I'd heard something like this was going to happen, but as part of the rebrand of the program. It was to bring it into line with how the otherALL PLUS programs work. I imaging we'll be getting some communication over the next week.

You can't get to Diamond on nights. Status Points via spend is the only path.

Yes, what I explained poorly was that last year I didn’t even stay enough nights for Platinum yet maintained Diamond and this year will probably be similar. I’m just shy of 24k points for this year but only on 43 nights so on nights not enough for Platinum but on spend I’ll easily retain Diamond again

The bonus nights also bring the threshold for higher tiers – such as Platinum and Diamond – more within reach. It’s all part of how Accor Plus is saying ‘thank you’ to its members, Accor Plus CEO Renae Trimble reveals in a one-on-one interview with Point Hacks.

Does the CEO not know nights don't help with achieving diamond or is there a change coming?

Well that will make me a bit happier after losing my Gold status (gifted as a QF WP) because I renewed Accor Plus for 1 July this year.

Just received an email saying the 20 bonus status nights should be credited within 10 days.

Good enhancement, should get me over the line for Platinum - excited for the SNUs and access to exec lounges regardless of room booked. Oh, and the premium wifi lol.

For some reason I never get emails from the group although everything is checked to receive them. I am nearly at Platinum for this year and extra nights won't help me for Diamond because that's based on spend unless they make Diamond spend or nights.

I just received the email saying the 20 bonus nights will be credited, but it will land me 1 night short for my August 31st renewal.

On another note I recently stayed at the Mantra in Darwin. The earn rate was much less than the price paid. Usually I get 2 times as much as spent. Is this normal for Mantra stays? Very disappointed as this 5 night stay cost me a lot of money!

Please no changes.
Already too easy to earn status and too many status customers now. Some of the EL lounges are absolute zoos and I did voice my concerns during my Q&A session the other night.
Thankfully there are a few trials and plans about to get under way to ensure Diamonds are looked after accordingly

Mantra and Peppers hotels have a horrible earn rate. They both earn at only 40% of what most hotels in the group do. Ibis and ibis styles earn at 50% so more than Mantra and Peppers.
There is an even lower group that only earns 20%

This page has both the exact earn rates and a useful calculator.

'Regular' Accor brands return usually around 1.5 ALL reward/status points per $1 AUD spent with a ridiculous number of caveats:
  • Spend amount is ex tax
  • Figure fluctuates based on AUDEUR exchange rate
  • As mentioned above, there are some lesser earning properties:
    • Ibis, Ibis Styles, Mama Shelter - 50%
    • Mantra, Peppers, Breakfree, Art Series, Adagio, Long Stay Brands - 40%
    • Adagio Access, Jo&Joe, Greet - 20%
  • Figure doesn't include status bonus for reward points, +25% Silver, +50% Gold, +80% Platinum/Diamond
The actual calculation is Spend x AUDEUR (currently 0.61) x 2.5. Clear as mud.

Moving right along, I got the email, but looking like I’ll still requalify Platinum off spend first. Unless I do an extended mattress run in Ibis budget, which doesn’t inspire…

You may drop back in status, but as the ALL status is also worked out at the end of the calendar year, you will move back up to what ever status level you achieve this year.
