Accor Plus Membership Discussion

I received this a few weeks ago after using Accor Plus via VPN while travelling. I called several times and spoke to their onshore member services team who confirmed this is legit. Begrudgingly sent them an expired licence with an old address and they reactivated my account
I'm honestly gobsmacked. The email is pathetic - "Unfortunately we have been advised that your Accor Plus account is currently suspended". So you're telling me that Accor Plus were advised by Accor plus that my account is suspended? Who advised Accor Plus then? 🤷‍♂️

I've reached out to a personal contact at Accor Plus HQ in APAC. Will share an update when I have one.

Completed a survey today which included some questions about both Accor and Accor Plus.

Seemed to be judging sentiment about the QF tie-up and whether extending to other partners in that same “coalition” (read: Woolies) would be of appeal.

Also floated the possibility of a new/additional tier and co-branded credit card:

Has anyone else received the below email from Accor Plus? Simply no way I am emailing them a copy of my ID documents in the current climate.

Generally, the reason for the suspension relates to a login from a suspicious IP, such as using a VPN or public WIFI while travelling.

Your account has been suspended to prevent any malicious activity from being carried out.

While your account is suspended, you will not be able to:

  • Use Reward points to book a stay
  • Register for points promotions and offers
  • Renew your membership
To reactivate all your benefits and ensure the security of your account, we request your assistance with the following:

  1. Change your account password. Please login to accorplus.comand update your Profile
  2. Email [email protected] to confirm that your password has been updated and attach an identity document showing your photo, name and address. This document will be deleted after processing your re-activation.
Further information on account suspension is available on accorplus.com. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Okay this is where things get interesting... I've just woken up to an email from Accor saying "Your request to change your email address has been taken into account". I obviously did not request this. I logged into my account, and my points balance has been used to book a hotel in Leeds. I've cancelled the booking and the points have been returned. I have changed my password, but not sure what else I need to do now?

Contact them to investigate how the email address was changed - was it via phone or did you password get leaked online somewhere? If it's the first then i'd be asking some pretty strong questions around what identity validation occured to allow that to happen!

Got a bizare call from Accor Plus on Thurs night, obvious offshore call centre wanting to make me aware of my benefits i.e. he told me that Id used my inlcuded night (err duh, I know), had x points (again yes I know this), that there is an app (again yes I know this).

It wasnt a sales call, as there was no offer to renew (my plus expires in June) or any specials to book a stay. Just odd.

He then noted I didnt have many forward bookings and I noted that based on my upcomming travel destinations, they did in many cases either not have any properties or only properties with a SHUB (which I will never book, Im an adult I want a walk in shower always) or other brands had superior rooms for a lower cost.

Asked me for examples I said they had no proprties in New Caledonia, no Propoerties in Finland and very few in the USA. He them disagreed stating that they do have a lot of properties in the USA but then had to concede they has none in New Orleans or Indianapolis.

I will only likley renew if I end up booking a fiji trip this year.

I have received a similar call a couple months back but it wasn't about encouraging me to book more (as I had tons of $80 Mercure bookings at the time). Instead, it was asking me if I had any colleagues who would want to sign up for Accor+, which I stated as at that time everyone I knew lived in North America and Accor has 0 properties there.

They don't though! Most of the ones they claim to have are actually Canadian owned Fairmont properties (and please, don't get me started on Fairmont).

I reckon you aren't using the restaurant benefit of Accor+ much? Sometimes I'll pop into an Accor hotel and eat at the restaurant just to get that 25% discount!

There is a couple of Sofitel (nyc and chicago) and i did stay at a Fairmont last year but was over $100 a night cheaper to book via Qantas Hotels thal All Accor, so best price guarantee means nothing in North America.

Except in a resort arrangement like in Fiji, i dont typically eat at hotel restaurants most cities I visit typically have better places to dine out.

With status in 3 programs im finding IHG seem to have best shub free options lately.

I'm getting a little annoyed with the dining benefit. The website lists a few exclusions, but fair enough. I reached out to the Raffles in Singapore just to confirm all is good there with using the dining benefits. Going for a splurge meal so don't want a nasty surprise on the day. The hotel's response

We do wish to share that at Raffles Hotel Singapore the 50% discount benefits are not applicable for dining.

Since 1st January 2023, we do only provide a 15% discount on total bill, inclusive of both food and beverages, however it is not valid with any other privileges, discounts, blackout dates or vouchers applicable for the following restaurants in the list below:

Osteria BBR by Alain Ducasse, inclusive of Sunday Brunch

Tiffin Room

The Grand Lobby

Butcher’s Block

Writers Bar

Yi by Jereme Leung

However, kindly note that these restaurants listed below do not enjoy any Accor Plus discount benefits:

La Dame de Pic

Raffles Courtyard

Long Bar

So that's super annoying. Accor Plus website says something very different to the hotel. Does this mean one always needs to check before dining in case they've just made up their own rules?

And where they do have properties, they're either a Fairmont so no lounge access for Accor Plats or the couple of Sofitels I looked at Chicago and Washington DC didn't have exec lounges. So what's the point?!

Agree, i have a couple of local Accor stays this year; but internationally i have mostly IHG (especially Indigo), 2 Hilton and a bunch of independents.

If it is a city stay there are usually better places to eat than hotel restaurants for dinner; whereas if at a resort well options may be more limited.

Easy enough to buy Accor+ back if next years travel plans mean it is easier to avail oneself of the benefits.

Raffles hotels generally don't participate. It's an exception listed on the exceptions page.

Ok, fair point. I obviously missed that bit, but you think they could explicitly list it in the dining exceptions too? Made all the more confusing by the fact they will offer 15% off at some of the Raffles restaurants.

Just my opinion, but when programs have complicated rules like this it just makes me want to disengage. Falls into the too hard basket.

I agree that the Accor Plus benefits are not as clear as they could be. For example the Banyan Tree in Kuala Lumpur is excluded from the Stay benefit ie you will never get a free night there, but it seems to be partially included in the Dining benefit. The Horizon Grill restaurant appears to be included (and it needs to be as the prices are eye watering), but the Ebisu restaurant does not appear on the list. Pretty confusing.

In terms of Accor's geographic coverage- i think their Tokyo and Osaka hotel selection is poor when compared to any of the other major hotel chains ie Mariott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG etc.

A lot of these inconsistencies seem to be with brands they have brought into the fold recently, rather than the more legacy brands. I guess they have trouble convincing the hotel owners the merits of the loyalty programs.

Hi - wanting to sign up with accor plus - any particular link more worthwhile than another - in chch NZ.

The current NZ offer at NZD199 appears to be the best going.

AU199 with 7% CR gets close to the NZ rate.

Or you could be like me… expiring 30 April and be offered 399 to renew. 😲
