Had a few stays the past month, here's the summary;
Grand Mercure Beijing Central - Booked Deluxe 1 Queen size Bed, that's what we got, nothing else.
Grand Mercure Xian Renmin Square - Booked Standard 1 Queen bed, upgraded to huge bed/room and fruit plate.
Mercure Chengdu North - Superior 1 King Bed, no upgrade and a fruit plate
Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake - Luxury Room, 1 Queen Size Bed, Westlake Avenue View, received upgrade to exec floor, wine, drink voucers, fruit & macaroons
Mercure Townsville - Standard Resort 1 Queen Bed, no upgrade (Parramatta Eels were staying there for the Cowboys match), received drink vouchers.

Grand Mercure Beijing Central was the worst hotel out of the China Stays. The others are highly recommended.

... My point is that even at a 5 star hotel there is no breakfast inclusion, unless you get an upgrade to an executive room if there is one available.
Are you being specific to Accor on this? Otherwise an SPG Platinum/HHonors Diamond might have some input ...

Yes this is the accor platinum benefits thread
Fair enough.

I just saw the 5 Star reference and considered it as general in that SPG Platinums and HHonors Diamond/gold can get guaranteed complimentary breakfast when staying at most 5 star properties in the respective chains without an executive upgrade.

Ok :)

My only real point was that I felt that posters expectations were a little bit high for an ibis in a country town. (or any ibis for that matter)

Just completed two night stay at Pullman Albert Park – expected nothing and got nothing.
Oh yes a free bottle of wine because they lost our booking in the system at check-in and we had to wait until 4pm to check-in (I arrived at 12.30 pm from Brisbane).
West Coast Eagles and Logie people staying so no availability.
Really pathetic Pullman (Accor).
Interested in your thoughts Aussie-Flyer.

I also just stayed at Pullman Melbourne Albert Park this weekend. Prior to booking I had emailed the hotel to enquire about the Platinum benefits they would offer. The reply was:

Good morning A330,

Thank you for your enquiry. We are pleased to offer the following benefits to Platinum LeClub members:

· Complimentary Upgrade (up to levels of room type & subject to availability)
· Late check-out up to 5pm on day of departure
· Complimentary Welcome Drink on arrival
· Complimentary access to our Executive Lounge (including coughtails and canapés in the evening and a breakfast selection daily)

Please let me know if you require any further information or assistance and / or if I can check availability for you if you wish to make a reservation.

Kind Regards

Upon check-in we were informed that the Executive Lounge was closed as "the hotel is quiet" and would be closed until the end of the month. Rather disappointing, especially when I had specifically contacted the hotel prior to booking. The least they could have done was advised me in advance.

We were offered compensation though - daily breakfast in the hotel restaurant and two complimentary drink vouchers (in addition to the two given as a "welcome gift"). We felt that this was insufficient so were furnished with an additional 4 drink vouchers. The breakfast was quite plentiful, helping to make up for the lack of lounge access, and the drinks offered at the bar, despite what the voucher stated, were generous.

The free wifi is decent. I have had hotel wifi require you to log in again every time you return to the hotel, but this one was fast and consistent.

When asking for late check-out the day before our departure, we were only offered until 12pm.

Very poor form for them to close the lounge - the hotel certainly wasn't quiet. I guess "quiet" means there were few people with lounge access actually staying. Now that Accor is the official hotel provider for the AFL, this hotel is flooded with AFL players on weekends. One team stayed the Friday night, another the Saturday night. As such the pool area is filled with recovery equipment (plunge pools and wheelie bins for ice baths).

Despite this, the hotel is actually quite nice. Great views over Albert Park lake, large rooms and recently renovated. Why did they have to ruin it by closing the lounge?

So, not even a welcome drink? Compensatory Breakfast? (Since with a lounge you would have had some.)

Yes two ‘complimentary’ drink vouchers and no breakfast included no other benefits.
Had a booking for July and since cancelled and will stay at HSW.
Interesting the forum poster #311 was told the hotel was quiet. I was advised that the hotel was extra busy and functions were being held in the lounge.
The hotel should review what they tell their loyal guests!!!

Was Accor Platinum some couple years back. I think their program is gaining a bit of traction now, previously whilst Platinum, no benefits provided at all. No room upgrades, no special thank you, the only benefit was the bonus points for being Platinum. I think Accor Platinum still has a very long way to go for benefits comparable with HHonors Diamond.

7 night stay at Novotel Sydney Central in April - I arrived at 9am and they apologised profusely as they needed an hour to get the room ready. Thanked me several times for being such an important customer, free drink vouchers on check in. Was told I could check out "at whatever time I liked" - I chose 4pm and it was no problem.

On check out day I wanted to extend another night, and the hotel was fully booked but they still found me a room, at 80% of rack rate.

Spacious rooms, recently refurbished with cheap (melamine) furniture that is already showing wear. They refurbished the bathrooms but left the old bathtubs - black is showing through the enamel in parts, not a good look. Didn't bother me as they were very clean, but might put some off.

Breakfast was of good quality and enough variety for a week stay. They were very welcoming to my 4 year old son as well.

6 night stay at Grand Mercure Roxy in Singapore.

Upgrade given: Yes 2 categories up over the standard room I had booked. I pointed out to staff that Platinum should be given the best room in the hotel. They declined even though there was availability. I had also emailed in advance about my stay and pointed to the standard Accor Platinum benefits expected and to the Mercure specific ones.

Executive floor: Yes. But only after request. So Executive lounge was provided which gave drinks, canapes and a decent breakfast in the mornings.

VIP treatment: No (whatever that is).

Room was small and could use some TLC. Really small for 2 adults and 2 kids. I hate to think what the standard room was like.

The staff were very nice and accomodating. I would recommend this hotel but hate the fact that I have to ask and remind staff about what is expected.

One night at the Sofitel in Philadelphia.
Booked a superior room with king bed and was upgraded to a junior suite.
Got great service with early check in (9am), 2 free drinks and welcome gift consisting of a pastry with sparkling water.
All without asking.
ALso got turn down service with Godiva chocolate and bottled water.
Managed to also get late checkout (2pm).

Novotel CDG booked family room, received family room. Complimentary drinks vouchers for 4 (happily accepted for 4 glasses of real champers). Not a bad property.

Mercure Arc de Triomphe Wagram, four nights.

Emailed a week before stay asking about early check in, subtle (not) saying platinum membership number. They said wait and see.

Arrived at 11am, early check in refused. No room upgrade, free drink voucher provided which they charged me for on check out.

Now at Sofitel Hamburg. No room upgrade (even though I checked and there is rooms available).

Accor doesn't seem good at this whole status thing .

I was not long ago downgraded from Platinum to Silver but had a few stays in the past week with great results as silver.

Mercure George St Sydney - we were upgraded to a very large corner room and given drink vouchers for the bar (x3 - one for each guest).
Fairmont Blue Mountains - upgraded to a higher floor and given 1 drink voucher.

I did not have to ask at either property which was nice too.

Sails In the Desert. Yulara. Pullman Hotel 3 nights . 2 rooms. 4 guests. I'm a platinum member.

Booked an Accor deal which included breakfast and Sounds of Silence dinner. Deal was extended to both rooms.

Booked superior room. Upgraded both rooms to fabulous Terrace Rooms. Welcome drink for all guests. Free Internet. Late check out for our afternoon departure given. Generally felt they bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and looked after. I had let them know we were here for a birthday and bottle of sparkling was in our room upon arrival as well as a special birthday treat at the restaurant on our first night. I had also brought along a advantage plus member for a day certificate and the manager kindly dated it for our 3 day stay..

VERY happy customer here and loving the hotel. Great staff, rooms and dining! Wish we were staying longer! :)
