Accor '1 pax but book 2 for 2 drink vouchers' trap

I'm usually travelling solo and have recently gotten into the habit of specifying 2 people in the room in order to get 2 drink vouchers.

Just discovered a trap in doing that, at least in France. Went to make a booking and did the above, and then looked into the pricing detail page. There was about A$14 of 'per person' taxes added on! Am I the only person who hadn't realised that? What other countries to look out for?

Following the table below, the difference in the 'taxes beyond GST' between a 2 person reservation and a 1 person reservation for 1 night was A$14 in the app. What would the value of a drink be?

Generally, when looking outside Australia, I check the rate for 1 and 2 people separately. While we're used to paying double occupancy prices in Aust whether it is one or two, other countries do have different single occupancy rates.

When I did that in Switzerland they said they could refund me the taxes and then they said it was too hard so go have a free drink. My drink was much more expensive than the taxes

The rates were the same for my booking, one or two people in the room, it was some of the taxes (which aren't included in the 'rate') that are charged on a per person, not a per room basis.

I went back and found one booking which I made for two, so the taxes are A$14 more than needs be. Was wondering if I left it whether they would adjust it on check-in (but then they'd want to take their drink back ) but I think I'll just cancel and re-book. My travel is virtually assured now, so I could book a pre-paid rate anyway.

Yes, - its clear from the tabulation I posted. Its not necessarily by who, but that it was a per-person charge, not per room as most other rates, taxes and charges are.

Based on our experiences in Spain and Portugal late last year, I’d say $14 is probably less than the cost of a drink in most places in Europe, even if that’s only house wine.
