John,

CNY570 HGH-CAN is a fair price.

Shano is correct. Foshan covers a big area and best if your friends contact one of the factories and give them the districts of the others and ask them to plan the sequence of visit, leaving the one nearest to Guangzhou East for the last. Bear in mind that traffic can and will jam at any time! Best to ask the last factory to organise the company car to take them.

DRCAM mentioned about the Motel 168 chain. Its good value for money but basic. A bit more "upmarket" is the sister Motel 268. The numbers refers to the lowest price rooms, which, like QF's awards seats are very limited. So expect to pay from 30% - 50% more than the "number".

Getting from Guangzhou East to HKIA, I usually take the train (CNY107) to Lo Wu (Shenzhen) which takes 50 mins and go through immigration over to Hong Kong. Take the train down and stop at the first station Sheung Shui (45 mins). From there I take the bus (N0:A43) which costs >HKG30 to HKIA. Stops at the front doors.

They are first time travellers to China?.......hang on to their wallets especially around crowed areas and watch out for fake CNY100 and 50 bills.

Hope this helps.

Actually it is a great price. We were happy to pay the Expedia price until bobsi18 posted the link to eLong.

Each of the factories would know they are going to the furniture show in Shanghai and would guess that they will visit other factories in Hangzhou and Guangzhou but we wouldn't want them to know which factories will be visited. We wouldn't anything to jeopardise any type of negotiation.

Worst case scenario is the factory to be visited on Wednesday morning is a little further away and they have to leave a little earlier.

Yes first time travellers to China but not to Asia. John has been to Philippines a number of times and has walked around in the middle of the night in some shady districts.

Thanks for your valuable inpiut Ric. I will definitely warn them to keep an eye out.

That's why I said to "give them the districts of the others" and not the name and addresses.

CNY570 is around the normal discounted fare. Sometimes even down to CNY480 depending on the season.

Hope they have a sucessful trip!!

Oops. I can't get a feel for the size of the industrial districts in Foshan or where they are in relation to one another. I think we can send each factory an email and ask them how far they are from Foshan city centre and how far they are from Guangzhou East station. If it is as you mention the worst case scenario would be ~2 hours travel.

I think Guangzhou has a population of ~12,000,000 people and Foshan has a population of ~5,400,000 people of which ~1,100,000 people live in the city. Wikipedia quotes Foshan as having control of an area 3,840 km2 so it is roughly the size of Sydney.

How close is the Hung Hom train station to Hung Hom MTR station? They can either get to the MTR after arriving in Hong Kong or get a taxi to the airport. I think it will be too complicated for them to introduce Hong Kong buses into the equation. It may be easier to get a taxi.

John,

Best for them to get to Hung Hom Station and then take a cab to the airport (about HK$300 or less), or alternatively, there are buses across the station that goes to the airport. Hung Hom Station is a different station to the MTR which is a lot of hassle to get to.
