Hi - looking for accommodation in October for a family - mum, dad, 2 teenagers who are happy to share a room in San Francisco for three nights and New York for 3-5 nights - would prefer somewhere with breakfast included and free wifi if possible. In New York would like to be between theatre district and Central Park. Budget around $300-500 per night - is this a fair amount?

Any suggestions appreciated.

My sons and I stayed at the Opal Hotel in SF close to everything including buses. Booked thru "booking.com" which shows room size for family suite. Breakfast was included. Stayed at the Kitano hotel in NYC also close to everything but with japanese comfort and design particularly the warmed toilet seats!!! No breakfast but Moonsruck Diner is just around the corner.

SF - adjoining rooms at my favourite; the Chancellor Hotel on Union Square.

NY - pay the money and go for the Waldorf.

Matt

Loved the InterCon in SF, espec with Exec Club access. I always think I can never eat enough or drink enough in the Club to get value for money, espec when there's so much good eating.

Easy to get into town (Union Square) to shop.

I strongly recommend The Slanted Door for a dinner. Book in advance as it just won the James Beard Award for Best Restaurant in North America. Amazing.

Or try AirBnB. Easy to get around SF using Uber too...

Just beware of apartments in New York. Most that are let for less than 30 days are illegal. You may get away with it but plenty have been caught.then no apartment and no money.
Air BNB is currently negotiating with the NY state Attorney general to try and work something out.
