About to do a multi city booking starting in LAX and i was thinking to book LAX-SYD and then a SYD-MEL flight for a stopover in MEL. I will only be travelling with hand luggage on these two flights and provided all goes well with my SC run in LOTFAP WP should have kicked in for me by the time i land in SYD (if all AA flights post within a couple of days..)

So will the F Lounge staff allow me entrance? And then later on i will process through immi and customs and transfer terminals..

Looking at the T&C's it only specifies WP has to be travelling on a QF, Oneworld, JQ etc flight... Nothing about which terminal from...

Any clarification would be great!?

I am sure someone on here has tried and hopefully been successful?

You won't even be able to get airside at SYD international without an onward booking departing from that terminal (T1).

All commercially operating QF SYD-MEL flights depart from their Domestic terminal (T3).

So, no Flounging that way.

clarification: I will fly in on qf12.. So wouldn't I be airside till I have gone through immigration and customs? Thus because I will only have carry on I can stay airside longer? And then when it gets with in 1.5hrs process through immigration and transfer to T3?

im a little confused!

Sorry

The issue is that, when you land, you will be on the lower (arrivals) level at the international terminal. The QF lounges can be accessed only from the upper (departure) level. For you to get from the arrivals level to the departure level, you go through a transit area which takes you upstairs - but you can enter this only if you have an onward connection departing from the international terminal. In your case, they will turn you back at the transit area, so you won't be able to access the departures level (and therefore the lounge). You will be able to access the lounge in the domestic terminal, though, after you catch the dinky little bus across the tarmac.

cheers for that! F lounge will have to wait until later in the year! :(

On arrival into SYD you disembark into the Arrivals concourse which is one floor below the Departures concourse.

Ordinarily, you then need to be processed by immigrations and customs before heading over to T3 using the Qantas transfer bus.

Now, you may try to head upstairs using the transit security and indeed end up on the depatures concourse from where you can access the First Lounge doors. Once you present your SYD-MEL BP, the lounge agents will not permit access and you will be directed to the T1 (by nowwhich getting to it will have it's own issues as it's not that easy to go from Departures to Arrivals security without questions being asked.)

If this were possible, the place would be so crowded there would be a queue to get in. There's an awful lot of WPs and OWEs out there, and few of them able to resist a golden freebie.

Unlike proper airports around the world where you can freely move around the terminal airside to basically anywhere you wish to go - arriving or departing.

No - *proper* airports allow the minimum Lounge to Pre-Departure Drink time.

Improper airports delay with needless things like gate security ;)

If you are prepared to add a stop, this might be possible. On certain days, you can connect to QF19 from T1 in SYD to BNE. You can then FLOUNGE while you wait it's departure. I have done this en route back from AKL. Of course, you will need to then get a flight from BNE-MEL. Long day to spend some time in the lounge...plus QF19 only operates on Tue or Thurs I think...

I agree with BD...
I much prefer separated arrivals and departures (with transfers if needed) (eg. SYD, HKG) to gate lounges (eg. SIN, TPE)

If arriving I prefer the latter, if departing the former :P

It's so depressing sometimes, walking through all the non-descript corridors on arrival!

You could try and get an international leg SYD-MEL (JQ35 - is it still going?)

According to the (new look!) QF website, the following dom legs of International Flights run:

JQ38 Thu 09:00
JQ29 Tue 11:15
JQ1 Tue,Sat 13:00
