Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to get your advice:
I'm a Qantas Club Member travelling Air NZ to Vancouver return in January. (much, much cheaper than QF!)
We have quite a long stopover in AKL on the way home and would love to get into the QF lounge if possible.
I was thinking of purchasing a Jetstar flight from AKL-WLG for like $35 which would get me in the door and just use the excuse that I was 'connecting'
That said, I'd be in the international terminal when I was catching a domestic flight.

Would this plan work?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Mike

Unlikely to work as that's a domestic flight - no lounge any more at AKL domestic terminal for JQ flights.

You would need to both be booked on an international JQ, QF or oneworld Flight.

I have always thought about this but never done it, couldn't you purchase a fully refundable business class fare and not fly at the last minute, if you were VERY desperate for lounge access ?

Alternatively since you are flying Air NZ you can purchase lounge access for $55NZ per person or $85NZ for more than 4 hours

Hmm don't think I could talk my way in?
If you read Qantas Club fine print it doesn't make a distinction between domestic and international when it comes to Jetstar?
"Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas, British Airways, or Jetstar Airlines[SUP]+[/SUP] flight number.
One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member."

For a start you would need two JQ tickets.

"Talk your way in" would be the only way with a JQ domestic New Zealand booking.

Arriving internationally, you would be able to physically access the front door, but I fear that is as far as you would get.

I'm going with no, you would not be able to access the AKL QP, as they would most likely state that your next onward flight could not possibly be with JQ, as you wouldn't have gotten past emigration if it was. The only way this could work is if you purchased a JQ or QF international flight from AKL.

Of course in that case, you'd need to check the fine print, as checking in may null any chance of getting a refund.
Personally I wouldn't bother and either join the Koru club / get a guest pass, or slum it out in the main terminal.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Another issue is you would need to purchase 2 x JQ tickets - one each.

The cost/angst benefit over purchasing NZ lounge passes diminishes markedly with that.

AKL has a paid for lounge the Emperor lounge. Its in the same place as the old EK lounge. Probably your best option or a single entry pass at the door to the air NZ lounge.
