Question: I am QF Plantinum. Am flying CX (Y) from PER to HKG with a considerable layover before flying BA (J) HKG to LHR.

Which is the best lounge to spend the hours in? Just want to check I can access CX First Lounge (being QF and flying BA). Suggestion or comments most welcomed.

As a WP do some lounge hopping, HKG is a great airport and CX has several lounges and you can stock up on Vegemite at the QF lounge.

QF have a First lounge
CX The Wing (First lounge is under renovations, but there is a dedicated space for OWE in the mezzanine floor/long bar)
CX The Cabin (combined Business+ First Lounge)
CX The Pier (First Class)
Sometimes depending on your departure gate you might be more inclined to go to the Wing (Gate 1-4) or the Pier (Gate 62)

When are you flying?

Last month I visited The Wing, Pier & Cabin.

AFAIK the new Wing F lounge isn't due to open until Feb 2013......based on what I saw/experienced I would head for the Wing J lounge....superb!

When the new Wing F lounge opens - I'm betting QF Flounges will not receive another 1st award for Flounges.

Thank you all. I am familiar with the CX lounges at HKG. All the times I have been there I was indeed traveling on CX. This time I am flying BA - just wish to check if my QF status can allow me CX lounges while flying BA. Sounds like everyone thinks so.

Until the Wing refurbishment is complete, the Pier F Lounge is much better. You can order won ton noodles be cooked for you - one of the best you will find in HK. There are sleep rooms available though I never tried them. If I am allowed CX Lounge I would like to try the sleep rooms. That is the reason for checking if I will be allowed in.

As a WP you have access based on status to any OW lounge (except for certain exceptions like the CL and Concorde room) when flying OW. It is actually a more generous benefit than for people flying in J or F who can only access the lounge relevant to their OW carrier.

I have spent many hours in HKG doing lounge hops, chilling and shopping. As I am older now I actually prefer to go to the lounge closest to the gate - even if that means using the QF F lounge.

If you are flying J you can access any OW J lounge, on that context its no different to status passengers in J, its been a feature of OneWorld since its inception.

I had forgotten that they had gone back to global access. Some time last year I think they restricted access to Class of Service pax to only the operating airline.

I think this applies only to F PAX with no lounge access by status

[edit]
That ABT article is 50 weeks old - there were significant ongoing 'refinements' to the rules about a year ago. Here's how they are currently:
[/edit]

J PAX have access to the "equivalent class of lounge" regardless of their frequent flyer status.

Sapphire have access to any oneworld Arline's J lounge they can physically get to.

Emerald have access to any oneworld Arline's J / "First" lounge they can physically get to.

First PAX have access to the "equivalent class of lounge" regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may have access to a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.

The lounge access page doesn't actually state that:

Lounge access - oneworld

oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class travellers

Indulge yourself before departure in a wider range of airport lounges when you fly First Class or Business Class with a oneworld member airline.

Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may have access to a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.
