Access to AA lounges - domestic US travel

I haven't been through DFW for a while now (been routing via ORD for the Flagship lounge), but I have a friend who flies SFO-DFW almost every other weekend. She said the DFW D club is the best. Though the A club used to be a Flagship lounge, and reportedly still has some of the old F lounge features.

Thanks again everyone for advice.

I have used basic Tripit before and not found it that useful, but will give the 30 day free subscription a go - thanks.

Another query though - do AA lounges offer computers/printers to use? I have a feeling not, but if anyone knows definitively I'd be grateful.

Yes - there area generally a few computers in each lounge.

You can also print from your own laptop or other device by emailing your document to a specific address (shown on printer), a release code is emailed strait back to you and you input this code on the printer to print your document.

I recently used a PC and printer in both LAX and BOS, so they have them there at least.

Oh, do not, I repeat, do not order the Tarragon chicken as your inflight meal.

Appreciate the info re computers.

Have been reading a FT post/series on the AA food in F. Very depressing reading... I'll have some flights before and a few after the 18 November menu switch which seems to be happening as referenced above. I'll give some feedback on return.

I find AA lounges on the whole to be superior to QF clubs. Free open bar with house spirits, or with the vouchers for OWE/QF Club you can get premium drinks, even at 8am in the morning if you so desire.

What? I'd rather have the option of free food in QF Clubs/J Lounges anytime than being able to get Grey Goose at 0800 & have to pay for food. However as always YMMV.

Definitely don't expect too much from food on board AA in F. If you have a flight over 2 1/2 hours, you can 'select your entree' via aa.com (use your PNR and manage your booking). This is time dependant though.

The food in F has never been great, then suffered seriously a few months back as they alligned themselves with the US F policy, and are slowly backing out of that to a mid point somewhere in between the new and old (but i've never had a 'good' meal on AA F, simply an acceptable meal).

I've had a quite a few flights on AA in F and I've have to say on the whole the food has been pretty good. I've used the pre-ordering option as well except for AA1036 AUA/MIA flight departing at 1030 where the only option was tortilla soup! Didn't bother pre-ordering preferring to choose onboard however the only two choices were take it or leave it as it was tortilla soup or it was nothing. That was the exception rather than the rule.

Thanks all also for tips re tipping and gate changes/non-announcements. Do they have screens in the lounges? If not, I'll get the relevant apps - but are they accurate? I usually leave a lounge a bit early for the above reasons so should be ok. Worst thing is to leave a lounge only to then see a flight is delayed.

One thing I love about Tripit is that once your trip is downloaded into your smartphone you don't need to be connected to the internet to open the app so you can be mid-flight or in the back of a cab & look up your hotel address or phone number or airline pnr you need to checkin at a kiosk. You'll be looking at it several times a day.

Sadly, such service was severely enhanced on September 1 - so much so that there has been a huge and (unexpectedly to management) sustained outcry. AA are actually backtracking and revising the meals again. These further changes to commence on the 18th; as to what extent they'll backtrack remains to be seen. I guess it depends if you would proactively choose the food served at the Qantas Club to have at home? Sliced processed ham, mountains of potato salad, party pies and the 246-piece brie wheel? (Yes to hot chips though!) The CX Cabin does an ok job with its antipasto, toasted sarnie and fresh fruit juice bars.

Trail mix on the other hand, and a bagel with cream cheese, are something I would eat at home. Or just a good stiff bloody mary depending on the night before/day ahead :)

Resurrecting an old thread mainly to thank everyone again for spot on advice re AA, the lounges, and getting Tripit Pro. The latter was very useful on some tight connections and more accurate than on board announcements.

I found the food on AA (first class) to be reasonable but a terrible lack of variety and got the same meals on many flights. No change after Nov 18 as had been promised. On the plus side, their drinks service (other than wine), salads, nuts, appetisers (longer flights only) and cake/cookie deserts beat Qantas domestic business in my opinion. How they can deliver excellent fresh salads with interesting ingredients (pear, feta, cranberries, strawberries - not all at the same time though) but get the mains so average I'll never know.

The AC lounges were as predicted, always comfortable and nice bar service. The flagship lounge in Chicago was excellent. Nice food, phenomenal spirits range and exceptional staff.

Happy to answer more specifics if anyone wants to know. Travelled to Miami, New York, Boston, Chicago and DFW (transits) Houston Hobby, Phoenix, Vegas and LA.

Did you visit multiple of the AC lounges in MIA and DFW? First time in MIA 2 years ago, I only went to the smaller one down near gate 15. This year, I discovered the larger one near gate 34. I thought it was much better.

Terminal A in DFW had the best showers I found.

Only terminal D in DFW - all onward flights but one (American Eagle) went from D so used that AC a few times. All brief and was fine for what I wanted. The connection to the Eagle flight was tight so didn't stop at the lounge in Terminal B.

Miami was only the one near gate 34 I think. It was fine but nothing special. Had some trouble with flights there (where Tripit Pro came in handy, telling me a flight I was on had been delayed, something neither check-in nor lounge bothered to tell me, putting my connection at risk).

In Chicago I mistakenly went to the lounge near K5, where the lady told me the flagship lounge was better and closer to my gate. Used the flagship lounge twice and thought it really good. Forgot to mention that the New York one was LaGuardia. Very nicely put together lounge given the terminal is pretty awful. Spacious lounge, decent free food (cookies, light sandwiches, nut and chip mixes) and a good view of field - apparently get a good view of skyline too but it was snowing so could barely see end of runway.
