Maybe an end to the excuse they are not the same airline at least in Asia.......or is this the increase focus on Asia promised by AJ?

ACCC proposes to authorise coordination between Jetstar joint ventures

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued a draft decision which proposes to grant authorisation to Qantas Airways Limited and Jetstar Airways Pty Ltd for coordination involving four Asian based Jetstar branded joint ventures: Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Pacific, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Hong Kong.
The proposed authorisation facilitates the Jetstar joint ventures coordinating with each other on passenger and cargo services, predominately on intra-Asian routes. It also allows their airline owners to support and expand each joint venture and to relate the joint ventures to their own businesses.
"The ACCC considers that the coordination is likely to result in public benefits to consumers by increasing the likelihood of additional Jetstar flights and destinations in Asia, and providing increased online connections for consumers," ACCC chairman Rod Sims said.

Certainly as a minimum, I would have thought co-ordination of services means greater flexibility (to choose the lowest cost operator) to operate shared routes such as HKG/SIN-Japan/Vietnam, HKG-SIN, etc, and allow both carriers to sell seats on said routes.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Lets hope that it means (pro) better QFF benefits, like recognising status, maybe even real code-share flights and not (con) less Qantas metal flights to Asia without code-share

I don't think this impacts on QF operations. It talks about 4 jetstar brands not qantas. I think it just allows qantas to manage those brands in a certain way.

It may give QF greater flexibility to manage SIN as an asian hub once DXB kicks in for the EU transits. Although admittedly, it would be as a LCC hub.

I am very wary of this announcement, I can just see it now, greater connections to Asia probably means greater connections to J*.
Given that most of my flights are to Asia if this comes true then its bye bye QF, hello CX or SQ.

I am sitting at around 900 SC's now, was going to do some status runs over the next few months to get to WP, but now I am re-thinking whether I should waste my time & money, if my main International routes are Jetstar-ised even partially with QF codeshares intra-asia won't bother to entertain this.

If that was the case then Qantas would not have been an applicant given the new Qants Group structure where there is 4 separate companies, QF and JQ being two.

I read it more as JQ can now intermingle their various sub-JQs to coordinate schedules, routings, pricing etc. Previous they were considered "separate entities" for want of a better description and needed to act autonomously (from a routing, pricing, structure point of view).

Which version of qantas was the applicant. One of the separate airline companies or the parent company that owns all the airlines?

No difference in that context, the parent company is the carrier, Qantas Airways. The application specifically mentions both Qantas and Jetstar as their own entities applying to share passenger and cargo:

Now, if only accounting standards would also be held up approriately between them.

Hence my point the parent has to be party to the coordination as per it's ownership structure. I note that the bit your link says Qantas not qantas airways.

The decision green lights Qantas to work with the Jetstars in Asia, regardless of the semantics behind the entities etc (JQ has previously made its own submission to the ACCC without the need to be two in a box with QAN). Once the EK/QF tie up is approved, we will no doubt see some announcements about changes, given the desire expressed by AJ to make sure Asia is still well serviced, but not having the fleet to do so, it will be interesting to see what is actually announced, I suspect this submission is part of that solution.
