Hi all
I joined AAdvantage in mid-July and dutifully printed my membership number that day. I havent as yet had my regular AAdvantage card delivered yet. Does it normally take 6 weeks+? At this rate I will be platinum before I get my standard card :)
Cheers

You have it:mrgreen: !!! You are Cardboard level!
When you get a higher status level you will get the plastic.
This is quite normal for a lot of airlines now.

You Will not receive a "standard" AAdvantage membership card. The card is not needed until you reach Gold or Platinum anyway. Once you reach Plat via the challenge, you should receive the Plat card and welcome kit in about 4-6 weeks.

I joined several years before actually doing the challenge (when they had a joining bonus miles promotion), and did receive a cardboard printed card back then. But they no longer send out a card until you reach Gold or Plat status.

Thanks - I just need to remember to take my paper card with me for check in on Sunday morning - the first flight in my challenge!

And you can rightly state your AA status as "paper" until you complete the challenge :D .

You don't need to carry the card with you, just need to know the number to check that it appears correctly printed on the boarding pass.

Youn will eventually get a card; you'll find your paper one is probably thicker. It is a CC size fragile piece of plastic attached to a sheet of AA letterhead. This sheet and the card appear to have both been laser printed with appropriate memberships details at the same time.

I will soon have enough status type cards for my own little group/map thing like yours serfty - just almost wish I was flying a bit more between now and Xmas so I could get exec plat as well :(

Now if I could phone them and pursuade them that 45K qualifying points in 3 months is really the same as over 100K qpoints and they should give me exec plat I would be a happy chappy ;) If only i had put my SYD-LAX-DFW-PIT-JFK-LHR-SIN-SYD flights on them I would be pretty close to exec plat by now - ah well hindsight is 20:20 as they say

I was going to ask if I could have an EXP challenge along the lines of 50,000 EQP in 1 month (which I achieved), but never get around to asking. Somehow I think they still would have said no.

Hmm - maybe I will call them tomorrow morning (mornings are my free time and I wont get someone in the US who is grumpy at working night shift mind you they might be bored and interested in the call ;)) and try it on :)

Whats the worse that can happen - they say no :)

Edit:

I have planned the following over the next three months:

SYD-AKL-Econ
AKL-SYD-Econ
SYD-BNE-Discounted Econ
BNE-SYD-Discounted Econ
SYD-BKK-BA World Traveller +
BKK-SYD-BA World Traveller +
SYD-SIN-Business
SIN-SYD-Business
SYD-NRT-Business
SYD-NRT-Business

I received an AA card in the mail before I even got any points. IIRC took a few weeks from signing up.

Same with me - paper card with a light shiny coating

Roughly the same timeframe for me (last year), also prior to any points earning, a flimsy card much as serfty described in an earlier post. Post-challenge, a nice PLT card arrived after a number (can't recall exactly, but not too many) of weeks.

As an aside, the "Card" came in a Envelop pre printed with "Deutche Post" 'franking' but was actually Franked and posted in Sydney (I guess by the now closed AA office).
