I have been in your position :). I was a Qantas fan peep for many many years - before I even knew this FF junk existed. We had the same inconsistent experiences in recent years, but I just couldn’t make the break. Ms FM said it was like a teenage romance, with all the breakups and reconciliations - Qantas even sent me flowers at one point :)

We made the break a couple of years ago and now fly what makes sense. E.g. we needed to visit Master FM in a hurry in December, so just booked Qantas and flew the next day. We are going on an Antarctica cruise in January and Ms FM’s husband didn’t want to take more than 2 weeks off work, so once again Qantas to Santiago was the best option.

We are flying to Africa in September and that will be Emirates.

If we fly to Europe or America in the future it will be SQ.

We had wonderful crews both to and from the States in December and I absolutely couldn’t fault anything. Only in J but just terrific service.

Generally though we are not interested in status anymore (having tucked away LTG just in case) and really Qantas F just isn’t in the same league as some of the other carriers, but you are paying the same money. As a self funded traveller I want value for my dollars and Qantas isn’t it, even when you get a lovely crew.

I don’t see the need to make an all or nothing decision, fly what makes sense and lower expectations is my advice. It is what I am trying to do :)
