Aaaaarrrggghhhh - flying!!! Had enough/over it! [Cuddles for Juddles!]

Well i have been flying regularly (all domestic) for almost 12 months (from once per 3 weeks to more than once per week), and my wife told me to look for another job that does not involve flying ......

I hear you my friend. I have leveled back. and feel OK about a status drop. I pulled 1500 SC's on Virgin in 9 months flying economy only and almost all of that domestic had QF flights as well. More time at hotels than home and as many family dinners face to face as on face-time.

Travel is always great and I love the whole song and dance. I did find during my more intense periods of flying that when I traveled with family that I clicked into auto pilot and walked too fast in airports, dodged and weaved in crowds and was basically a selfish jerk without noticing it.

I love to cook and I can't tell you the amount of times I wanted to just ask at a restaurant if I could come into the kitchen and do my own food while I was away somewhere.

One day Ms 6 year old cried and said that she did not want me to go away again..... I felt so bad. Still travel and have 50-80 flights a year but it feels like a doddle compared to the olden days.

Re: Cuddles for Juddles

What a cool thread title, nice edit.

Traveling can be fun but nothing beats coming home to your own bed.

Can't agree more. After living in a hotel for the last 12 months ( and another 12 to go) I would like nothing more than for us to be in our own home in our own bed.

C... own home in our own bed...

My record is 21 days not sleeping in the same bed twice in a row. Sheer insanity. And I am paying for it.

Am looking forward to Thursday - stability at last! I might get three nights in a row.

But much better still is in two weeks - almost ten days back in Australia. Have to do a short "hop" to a mining town during that, but mainly "at home". Which includes my eldest daughters formal. Have learnt at least to try for the most important family events :)

In the first 6 years of my working life i had a flying optometrist role doing outreach work with remote Qld communities. I.e. Cape York peninsula and the Torres Straits amongst other places. At this time i was single and flew between 3-4 times per week every week, most on regional Qantas and Ansett, buy many more on small charter planes and helicopters. I enjoyed the hell out of it but various aspects got me down after years, and i continued but at a significantly reduced frequency. Remember this was in the days before mobile phone coverage, before noise cancelling headphones, before ebooks etc.
Problems encountered that made me need my own cuddles.
japanese encephalitis, Scabies, toes bitten by rats, no accommodation arranged so sleep on the operating table, No meals arranged(no shops either, so always carried two min noodles, chased by a taipan, had emergency landing on sandbar with tide coming in fast, crocodile moving my foot out of the way when i sat on the steps of the hospital, being forgotten at Bamaga airport, being stranded on Pam island in a cyclone, sleeping behind razor wire at one settlement, no meals at destination, Qantas cancelled a flight mid flight and left me stranded, had a gun pulled on me in Cairns airport carrying a ceremonial spear, and so much time waiting in god awful seats.

So i feel for you we have all been there and some of us have been worse.
Cheers

In regards to MikeG's entry above #40, I too find lounges mind numbing ..... but not for the first timer who often is in awe ...... I used to be like that!
