You guys are fantastic, having answers to all of my questions, so here's another (simple) one ;-

How does one get AAA rates, I'm a NRMA 'classic' roadservice member, would I be able to get those AAA rates for say Hilton or SPG properties?

For Hilton you simply insert your 16 digit number when you make the booking. The displayed are at the appropriate AAA rates. (I've done it with the RACV membership card)

Alanslegal, I've successfully booked accommodation in the States using my RACV (Victorian roadside assistance) membership. I've got a "Show and Save" symbol on the card, and included just above the logo is "AAA". Show them that and you're on your way to AAA rates!

Hope this helps:)

For the states you often have to use the international club code.On my RACQ card it is on the back under the blueAAA logo. For RACQ it is 310.
You can also use this for admissions to museums, theme parks and even US National parks.I just show my RACQ card and ask for AAA rate-rarely questioned and if I am flip the card over and point out the AAA logo and have never been knocked back.

I am very impressed about this AAA thing. My RACWA card has it on the reverse. It is very small so I had not spotted it.
The savings thru AAA in the US can be very worthwhile for hotels and entries to many places.
Thanks for starting this thread as it could save travellers to the US quite a few greenbacks every day.

Thanks guys for the reply.

I don't have my NRMA card yet as I recently signed up, so I can't see if there is an AAA logo or not. Might have to wait until my card comes up but if anyone has a NRMA card - which they can confirm, that would be great.

Try here:
How To Show Your Card & Save - NRMA Motoring & Services

This is the Show & Save logo that appears on my card. Although you can't really see the image clearly, there is a AAA symbol just above it.

Interesting to note for Hilton reservations the AAA rate gives a 5% discount on the best available rate. If available you are better off with the Advance purchase rate which gives an 11% discount on the best available rate.

Does the AAA rate also discount the Advanced Purchase rate :?:

Yup you will have the AAA logo and club code #307 for NRMA :p

Hope this helps

There does not appear to be an AAA discount on the Advance purchase rate.
JohnK,

Thanks John. I just tried it and you are correct.

For Priority Club members the AAA rate lowers the cost of a Best Available rate to approximately the same as a pre purchased rate. Not all Hotels in the group will honour the AA rate. Just try it in the booking on the web site.

Most times I prefer to book the advance purchase rate.

I have noticed that the Best Western website offers a discount for AAA members but never thought of using my NRMA membership. Will try this in the future.

Individual hotels in the Hilton stable vary as to rates-just booked an HGI in the states for August-AAA rate $132.05,prepaid-$132.00 so I went for AAA-5 cents fo flexibility seems reasonable.
SPG though does give you pre paid rates with an AAA discount-usually!

While the Advance Purchase rate may be lower, some people prefer the flexibility of the "Best Available" rate and hence the AAA rate having the same ability to cancel without penalty.
