If one was to book through IHG directly, how do the rates vary? For example, is AAA better than the 'Best Available' etc?

In my experiance the best available rate is usually the most expensive however it is usually fully flexible. ie it can be changed, cancelled etc etc. Alot of the discounted rates require a deposit or full payment on booking and generally are not refundable.

I would also suggest that if 2 people walked into checkin at the same time, 1 was booked on a discount rate and 1 was booked on a full rate, the discounted persons room would not be of the same quality as the full rate person. ie lower floor, not a good veiw, not rcently renovated, etc

AAA rates, when offered, are generally around 10% cheaper than Best Available, with similar flexibility and conditions.

By joining any club like NRMA, RAcV, RACQ. That's really the Australian auto association, but the

"The AAA is a member of the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT) and the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), which is a federation of more than 160 clubs in 120 countries, representing more than 100 million people. "

AA Members are entitled to reciprocal benefits from clubs around the world that are members of the FIA.

Your AAA number on the back of your member card is the code recognized as your international AA club membership number.

Pity they don't give me discounts to the F1 being an FIA member (and FIA being the mob who officiate it! :)

Considering RAC WA gives you discounts on woolies gift cards and Myer gift cards, it's well worth it IMHO.

Thanks. I'm a member of the NRMA. might give it a try. but is booking through booking.com etc possibly cheaper?

look on your membership card, maybe on the back, and you should see a AAA logo and text such as "show your card & save" and a "Club Code" with a number. That is what they will look for when requesting to see your membership card.

IHGs best rate guarantee is pretty good!
