AA / US Airlines Merger - Points Question

Hey guys,

Excuse my ignorance (and apologies in advance if this was asked before) but I wanted to run something past you.

With the current points bonuses on both AA and US Airways, is it worth doing the following?

- Buy the max amount from AA (108k points, 2.2c per point)
- Buy the max amount from US Airways (130k points, 2.3c per point)
- Wait till the next AA sales starts (in 2015) and buy more points (assuming the same sale, will bring another 108k points)
- Once plans are merged, my AA account will have 346k points (enough for RTW in business / first ticket with change).


What do you think? Is it worth it? Only downfall I see is if AA decides to increase points required for redemption.

I think a devaluation may be of concern, however I would love to hear others thoughts on this.
