AA to fly LAX/SYD; Qantas returns to SFO/SYD

Yes especially since AirNZ are shrieking to the government to protect them - was in the press today they are looking to delay the QF/AA partnership.

Of course they are. They wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't object.

Re: Major new AA route to be announced June 9th.

We're excited about the interim authorisation: QANTAS WELCOMES INTERIM AUTHORISATION FOR ENHANCED ALLIANCE WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES - Qantas News Room

(A sign that I've spent too much time on AFF...the 'e' word nearly stopped me from sharing the good news! ;))

Good stuff. Funny about the 'e' word - I think I saw a comment from an Air Canada exec a while back acknowledging that they really shouldn't use that word any more :).

Speaking of AC (in hushed tones only, here) - I see they are putting the heat on the VYR route by flying a 787 to and from BNE. I love flying QF direct to YVR when it runs but a 787 out of BNE is really tempting!

Re: Major new AA route to be announced June 9th.

QF SFO schedule has been uploaded into the GDS, according to airlineroute.net:

QF073 SYD1500 – 0930SFO 744 x26
QF074 SFO2325 – 0900+2SYD 744 x26

Service increases to 6 weekly as Tuesdays service will be available from 02FEB16.

So as expected, almost the same as the old SFO flights.

Any idea what the AA flights will be?
Is morning/lunch LAX departure, SYD ~5pm +1, return ~8/9pm possible?

It seems that morning/midday flights from LAX/West Coast to the SW Pacific just do not work for airlines. I wonder if it is the preferences/ paradigm of the airlines or the passengers that prevents it. What is curious that with similar local time of the clock arrivals, there are many services that depart LAX and SFO to Asia in the middle of the day, arriving late afternoon or early evening (HKG, ICN, PVG, PEK, KIX, NRT, CAN, TPE) or late evening if you need to fly through to somewhere like BKK or SIN! Certainly I've taken flights back to SIN at midday and it is nice to arrive home in the evening and go to bed, especially if travelling in whY.

Assume some 747 maintenance will be done in SFO with those timings

Re: About time - some real competition USA-AU OW

Excuse my ignorance, but what is 'MCE' ?
Normal Y seat with extra leg room. Sold at a premium and/or assigned to elite pax. Basically the same as the QF extra fee for exit seats.

Many people confuse the "MCE" like offering by the major US airlines to be premium economy.

I can't find anything on AA flights yet. Note that the QF times have been removed from the GDS so it is possible that they are not final

What you suggest is possible, but a 8/9pm SYD departure would mean a 4:30/5:30pm arrival in LAX, leaving 4+ hour connections for east coast destinations. So for that reason, I would say it would be unlikely to occur

AA just said "We hope to get a schedule soon, keep an eye on our website for updates." I'm assuming they'll appear on Sunday when they do their other updates in Sabre.

They did the same thing when they first entered the current PER-SIN 737 flights. Loaded into GDS, pulled a few hours later, then when ready to officially announce times, added the same data back in.

Re: Major new AA route to be announced June 9th.

As per a post on FlyerTalk SYD-SFO fares are now live.

Much to my surprise there is award space availability, particularly in Business, and around Christmas and New Year.

Re: Major new AA route to be announced June 9th.

On a related note, QF63 will become 6x weekly (dropping Wednesdays) when QF73 goes 6x weekly.
