AA to fly BNE to DFW [confirmed]

Heard from a friend at Brisbane Airport that AA is going to be starting services later this year. Apparently it will be announced very late tonight Australian time, but morning in the US. Certainly will make QF's option to the US even more inferior.

Will be interesting to see if QF pulls its own LAX service

I doubt it. Far more pax demand on BNE-LAX than BNE-DFW, and if it was to replace QF it would be from LAX. I'm guessing they're getting some of that AAIF cash.

But this is a good complimentary route to the JV, means that the 3 major QF hubs are connected to two major AA hubs. Having said that, I'm going to assume this will be a NW route only.

Exec Trav American Airlines to launch Brisbane-Dallas flights

American Airlines will begin flying between Brisbane and Dallas/Fort Worth as the Oneworld member and Qantas partner brings new competition to local skies.

Brisbane has long been on American’s wishlist, and has been teased via its Instagram account – but Executive Traveller understands an official announcement is expected within the next 24 hours.

While Dallas Fort Worth isn’t a major drawcard in itself, the airport’s role as American Airlines’ hub provides plenty of onwards flights across the US, especially the east coast – both up to New York and down to the cruise capital of Miami.

Will be interesting to see if AA service DFW-AKL survives. Expect it will not.

The ol' Queensland taxpayer funded AAIF almost always comes in for Inbound Tourism heavy routes, especially for routes with minimal or not currently serviced.

DFW is a AA superhub that should channel most of the inbound traffic into BNE/Queensland in the name of inbound Tourism for Queensland, especially with the large focus on the North by the tourism agencies.

Considering how little the grants are once spread around, airlines still jumping at it, interesting. I understand there might be tourism dollars tied to a deal like this also, as seen with others in the past.

It makes sense if you ask me. Next up we'll start seeing the connections with Alaska/Hawain improve and oneworld will dominate Trans-Pac Aus<>USA.

Looks like next summer as a seasonal route, loads of tourism on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast around December/January. People coming from far and wide thats for sure.

My guess is that BNE-DFW it's a NW24/25 seasonal. Perhaps mid November in line with the University finish/exam dates, and a mid February finish (in line with O-Week). That's about a 12-13 week season to cover for Uni, Tafe/College and School Students/Family/VFR crowd going to anywhere other the West Coast of USA (and ditto for the reverse, assuming AAIF money is applied with Queensland promoting Tourism to the non-West Coast Americans).

DFW-AKL ran for the full NW schedule (late Oct to late March). I expect it will be the same, but not daily. I would assume AA & QF have plans to eventually make this a year round route and really this is all about countering UA's capacity increase into BNE.

I note DFW-AKL is selling for NW now so I doubt that route is going anywhere.

How does this work? Does the government gift money to the carrier towards startup costs or do they underwrite seats on the plane if it's not filled? If the latter, what's the incentive for an airline to price competitively?
