I have just lost ca 100000 AA points, due to expiry. They, probably, warned me about it at some stage but I missed that message somehow. Now they want 700 us$ to recover that loss. Has anybody had a similar experience? Is it worth trying to call them?

Given they send several warning emails it comes down to if you really want them back for that price.

They're way better than Qantas with expiry warnings.

Ouch .... that hurts. But the only choices you have is to pay the money to re-instate the miles or accept the expiry. Their policy is clearly stated on their web site and they do send monthly emails with teh subject line: "AAdvantage eSummary - Month Year", which includes the miles expiry date (albeit in small font size).

Yes, and I've just got an email on a couple of our family accounts 6 months out explicitly stating that my miles are at risk.
