I booked 2 award seats on AA from MCO to LAX using QFF through Qantas.
AA has changed the flight schedule and the new times are not suitable for me.
Logging into my booking gives me two options accept or cancel.
To change I need to contact reservations.
AA cannot help me.

I cannot waste any more time waiting for reservations to answer.

So my questions are:

1) What is the penalty for cancelling?
2) How soon will the points be returned. I can book another award flight that suits me but I need these points back.

Cheers

Craig

5,000 points per person to cancel, 3,500 points to change. They might waive that for an involuntary change, not sure what would happen if you click the Cancel button.

The last two times I've cancelled on the phone I've got the points back almost immediately, but on weekdays.

Previous times I've cancelled online and then needed to follow up on the phone to get the points back.

Happy to lose the 10,000 points than waste anymore time waiting for someone to answer.

Please don't tell me you have to ring reservations to get the points back?

Cheers

In my experience it can take longer when the flights originate overseas. You can try and I guess there's nothing to lose.
