On a recent trip to the US I seemed to get some (most?) of the benefits of exec platinum (= emerald = QF WP) such as free main cabin extra seat selection, but also had lost a perk I've previously been afforded (free F&B on the plane).

Previously (about 2 years ago), my status came up on their handheld device and I was given (a) free snack and (alcoholic) drink, without asking and without me even knowing I was eligible for it. This recent trip, they no longer offered this benefit. Pleading ignorance paid off though.

Was I short changed, or does anyone know when this was taken away?

P.S. I remain bemused by the choice of superlatives that seem to have to be added to status titles in the US - it confused me when "platinum" boarding was announced and half the gate lounge stood up - took me a while (and a ping of a free drink in the midst of most others reaching for their wallets) before I realised "platinum" on AA was equivalent of "gold" on QF.

I continue to enjoy it while I can.

There was been a report on FT last year that the EXP benefit is also an Emerald benefit - as written in the "manual".

Being a rather thick tome, it seems not all FA's can be bothered reading the manual ...

Agree with Serfty,

It's never been advertised as a Emerald-wide benefit, although in practice that's what it is, and my understanding is the same as Serfty's.

Usually the FAs just see you as an EXP and you get the food/drink item.

Honestly - I've only been offered it proactively once, but I usually politely prompt with "Have you got me showing as an EXP on your list there?".

10/10 times - "Yes, what can I get you?".
