AA award bookings - cancellation/changes

I was always under the impression that once AA award tickets had been issued, no changes were permitted. Though I was advised by AA that this is not the case. Date and time changes are permitted without penalty (obviously subject to availability).

But what about cancellations?

But what about cancellations?

With regular awards, rebooking is allowed without charge as long as there is availability on a carrier between origin and destination

e.g. currently booked 1 june LHR-SIN-SYD ( on QF with no stopover in SIN ) could change to 4 June LHR-NRT-MEL-SYD with LHR-NRT on JL with QF NRT-MEL-SYD ( no stopover in NRT or MEL would be permitted ). A change of origin or destination would incur a change fee of $100

FOR OneWorld awards, date and time changes are permitted free of charge however neither change to routing nor carrier is permitted

For cancellations, there is a redeposit fee of $100 to get the points back into your account
