I am looking at a booking which includes an AA ticketed Alaskan flight. The question is, will I get QFF status points.? Thanks in advance to the experts.

There are status credits, and/or points - which do you mean? And will your Alaskan flights have a QF flight number?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

"Ticket Number" is irrelevant. (Put it this way, an AA ticket number starts with 001-, a QF ticket number starts with 081- .)

It's the "Marketing" Airline that is important - this is represented by the 2 character flight number prefix.

If your flight number starts with AA (e.g. AA6543) then it is marketed by AA and AA earning is what happens. In the specific case of AA codeshares on AS, points and SC's will be earned if it is in an eligible booking class.

(Note that AA is different from most marketing airlines in relation to Qantas Frequent Flyer earn in that the operating metal is irrelevant.)

Just to add to the picture for the OP, some routes can have either a Qantas (QF), Alaskan (AS) or American (AA) flight number and the earn varies.

For instance, if a bronze QFF member flies LAX-SEA in discount economy, 1) with a QF flight number they earn 800 points and 15 status credits; 2) with an AS flight number they earn 954 points and 0 status credits and 3) with AA flight number they get 500 points and 15 status credits.

Drilling deeper, the flight is ticketted by AA flying on Alaskan YVR LAX. Do I get the QF status credits as per AA rate? Important question for me. The itinerary is all AA ticketted. Cheers

As serfty said, its not the ticketing airline that's important, but the marketing airline - that is, the one who has their code on the flight. If your flights are all prefixed 'AA', then you will earn via this calculator, thusly: for SG and straight economy fare, its 2170 QFF points and 20 SCs on AA flights. If they were all designated QF flights, earn would be 2288 points and 25 SCs (but the QF fare would probably be higher than AAs for the same flights).

Thanks, in First on AA 90 SC but if ASA, 0 SCs. I use AA.com for the ticketing. Can I assume this is the marketing airline?

Very likely is, but can't assume. Reading the flight number is much easier than interpreting the ticket issuer. If the flight number prefix is AA, then its earn for AA. If the flight prefix is AS, its earn for AS.

I have an Alaska Air flight that I booked through them because it was substantially cheaper than booking through AA - I haven't been able to work out a way to add my QF number so put my AA number in - has any been able to put their QF number on Alaska Air booking? TIA

NO!

What are the first two characters of each flight number???

There is your "Marketing Airline".

If a flight number on your ticket is "AA1234" then AA is your marketing carrier for that flight and earn is as noted for AA.
