OK it is from Nonews but the FAA certainly is getting tough on the airline industry.

They're really not that bad to fly in (all maintenance issues aside). I've just flown some 6 segments on them with another 3 to come. LAX to ORD is a long run though. Are you sure it's an MD80? The times i've done LAX-ORD it's been a 763... LAX-ORD is a long flight on an MD80.

In the past two years I have flown SFO to ORD on an MD80, however, my next flights from LAX to ORD (AA681) is on a 763, so the MD80's do fly this leg/direction on a regular basis albeit from SFO or LAX to ORD.

I gotta say, I did 3 MD-80 flights earlier this year with AA, Toronto - Chicago, Chicago - Boston and LA to Las Vegas and I was white nuckled the whole trip. The take off from Toronto was something I have never experienced before with the aircraft literally shaking from side-side. The other two sectors were not the same either and yet the weather conditions in Toronto were perfect with clear skies and literally no wind. The sooner they get rid of MD80's the better. Every time I see one, I think of cheesey 70's movies where the aircraft are either hijacked or experience severe turbulence. (Some things never change obviously!)

I've over 20 flights and ~30,000 miles in these aircraft over the last 3 years; only twice down the back.

Never really had an issue - they are good for two passengers travelling together as you can have your own row of seats.

AA have ~260 of these critters still flying around.

Means they aint going anywhere soon.

They shake rattle and roll on takeoff, but a lot of a/c do. The 737-300's do it, as do a lot of older a/c. Some modern aren't the most subtle at takeoff either.

The LAX-ORD is a long run (thanks for the screen cap!). I have taken around 30 like serfty, with probably just under half "down back". I can't see what AA would replace them with, other than 737's as the 717's have now ceased production.

My recent DFW-SEA was 4 hrs 20 min with a full aircraft. I didn't actually realise it was that this was such a long haul for one of these babies. :shock:

AA are retiring these slowly, bringing in new 73H's.

We have a booking LAX - ORD for next August which has changed to a 73H from a S83.
