I have a question regarding QF and AA's JV and the pricing agreement. I always thought that the JV would mean that at all times prices between AA and QF should not have huge differences on the same routing and all revenue is shared correct? I'm just curious as I've found some interesting routing which produces $400+ difference between the AA fare and the QF fare. Would someone please enlighten me? thanks!

Can you give an example -dates, flights etc?

Yeah sure. I also apologise its meant to be AUS-US.

The fare I was looking at was SYD-HNL-xLAX-xMEL-SYD

SYD-HNL on the 2/12
HNL-LAX-MEL-SYD 7-8-10/12 (departing HNL at night)

On AA it would price out at around $1297~ vs 1670~ on QF and QF codeshare. Both are AUD.

Doing a quick check, the Qantas price is using all QF flight number with a codeshare on the AA flight. It pricing with S class from SYD-HNL and HNL-LAX. For LAX-MEL-SYD it is in Q class.

The AA pricing is Q class all the way on AA flight numbers.

I do see Q class available on E/F for both AA and QF. It may simply be that Qantas are not making Q available in this case for an Oz POS. That does not explain the JV discordance.

You're right. It is interesting stuff. I wanted to book a upgradable fare anyways but it is interesting to see how the JV plays out. I wonder under which POS would QF open up Q space.

Does anyone know by any chance if fare rules for JVs are suppose to match? Eg: QF and AA both have the sales fare in Q from SYD-LAX-SYD except that AA allows unlimited stopovers in its pricing and QF wants $100AUD per stop over.
