In early 2026, there are options of getting to BOG on either Qantas A380 or AA 787-9 (via US). I may even potentially be able to afford business if paying cash.

Any recommendations about which I aircraft I should choose, in Y and/or J?

For economy I’d go Qantas… they feed you well and plenty to keep you entertained.

For business… either I guess. AA’s is herringbone, on Qantas you have some window seats hard up against the window, others are on the aisle. Great if you can get a seat against the window.

I think the advantage of AA is that you bags can be transferred for INT-INT connections, you no longer need to collect them and re-check.

I appreciate the tip re: AA and collect/re-checking bags. Sounds like something I need to look out for if booking on a QF flight.

No, that’s only on SYD-LAX, not on BNE-DFW. AA BOG routes don’t depart from LAX (only DFW and MIA)

AA long haul service is pretty poor IMO, or if I’m being generous, it’s hit and miss.

The QF hard product in J is superior, as is the service. The main weakness is the catering, but AA isn’t any better.

The QF BNE J lounge is nicer than SYD’s. I think cost and your location (whether you have to transit BNE or SYD) will be big factors - you could also fly QF via SCL with a connection on LA (LATAM, not Los Angeles)
 
If you going Y, then certainly QF. A380, feels far roomier, relatively quiet, tends to ride a lot smoother (feel turbulence less) help your self drinks and snacks for just about the whole flight.

If going in J, I love the QF hard product in J. If the AA J flight is the new upmarket "flagship" fit-out great, if not, I would opt for QF.

My personal preference at this time is to avoid going through the US - YMMV.

You can get an ITI transfer for DFW connections. I have done it before flying LHR-DFW-SYD (AA to QF).

The QF site mentions it here under baggage. Cannot see why it would not apply to a BNE-DFW-BOG or even SYD-DFW-BOG.

Yeah you’re right, but this seems to be a different program that’s not airline specific.

The trial @MEL_Traveller referred to is specific to AA departures from SYD.
 
No brainer for me, of the few times I've flown on AA (points Y and J), only ever had terrible service, food and attitude. Even a possible better hard product wouldn't make up for the bad experiences.
 
I flew AA Y on a last minute PHL-CDG trip last year on a 787 and let's say it gives you a reality check in regards to Qantas. Food servings were much smaller than QF which is already smaller than EK.

Seats are more narrow than an A380 and less space to stretch your legs on the plane. The winner is probably the option for wifi if that's something you need.
