Yes it is a pretty good even if you just use the AA miles for J flying in Australia.
 
My sons use their AA Miles mostly on QF Coast to Coast in business class on the A330 and some business and first flights across the US. Tends to be pretty good as a money saver in Australia.
 
Well that might fix a Christmas present or two. We have our last US currency purchase at 0.7850 from last month so it is feeling attractive to pay on a US credit card which gives AA miles too. I cannot get the tax back that is charged as I don’t need to file with Uncle Sam.
