A380 Production Sadness

And from memory we thought most airlines would follow.
Sadly, I think the reality is that everybody hoped they would go 8 across, whilst just knowing that it never even crossed their dreamlined accountants' minds.

If we'd got the A380plus/neo etc I'm sure we would have got at least some of the Y cabin being 11-across as well (maybe as a Y basic).

Indeed now that we won't, I wkndrw whether Airbus will allow it on the existing fleet.

Most memorable OLD 380 Suites flight 1 - The very first flight I ever had in old R - I had J Saver on 218 conf MEL-SIN then 777 SIN-PVG - I read here on AFF that R Savers were now available so I jumped on SQ site 5hrs pre dep and upgraded to R/F. Something malfunctioned and site locked up - I logged off and logged back on and there is my conf R/F booking staring me in the face with no pts or $ charges - 30 mins later SQ called me and pointed out out I had upgraded but web site maifunctioned and I needed to pay $s and pts to reflect - duly did and headed to MEL to take up my very first R exp.

Mose memorable OLD 380 Suites flight 2 - Sept 2016 heading to Las Vegas for annual trade show (junket) saw the Ette and myself on old R MEL-SIN-NRT-LAX - all fine and dandy til dep NRT when engine blew up on takeoff - circled around for 3 hours then landed & o/n Hilton NRT til replacement 380 arr next day to complete flt - arr LAX then 3hr wait til Southwest to LAS - all up 72 hrs from leaving our house til arr Bellagio LV - basically 4 R & F onboard exps and 5 F Lounges exps in 1 journey - gotta love that!

Most memorable OLD 380 Suites flight 3 - June 2017 I took 3 of my sisters none of whom had ever flown even J before MEL-SIN-PVG/PEK-SIN-MEL for 9 days - 2 in R and 2 In J over and back. 380 on 830 dep SIN 09:45 saw 4 hr delay due to mechanical - we spent basically the whole time sitting in SIN T3 SKL F drinking PH Rare - then 2 of them sat up in 3C/D for 5 hrs SIN-PVG drinking Dom - they were not a pretty sight on arr PVG.

Next Old 380 Suites flight - Mar 22 802 SIN-PEK - I really don’t like the timing as they serve ‘Brunch’ and not full ‘Lunch’ - but I do love 3C but it is what it is so gotta enjoy whatever we can when we can (Having said that I have forgone 380 on 218 to 238 on 777 on Mar 21 to o/n in SIN - 380 Gods pls forgive me)

Mrscove loved 1A with me in 2A in the new SQ Suites. She even took a photo and we are not photo type of people.
I do like the old Suites too and go for two if there are spares.
I found a new source of Kris Miles for my Amplify credit cards this week but because we are loaded I gave this months opportunity to our business partners.

I don't see any new orders here. This is just delivery of the last aircraft that they had on order...an order which they inherited from a subsidiary, and which AB took them to court over.

Not quite.
Airbus cancelled the Skymark order.
ANA ordered 3 new A380s, unrelated to the cancelled Skymark order for 6, in order to get Airbus to back them in their bid for Skymark.

JA381A (MSN 262) first flew on Sep 17 2o18. JA382A (MSN 263) first flew Dec 18 2018. Both are in Hamburg being fitting out now. Only 381A has been painted.
JA383A (MSN 266) is waiting for parts to arrive in TLS.

Skymark had 2 completed and a 3rd in assembly when the order was cancelled over Skymark's inability to pay. The 2 completed aircraft were modified and delivered to EK.

The 'spruce goose' might trump your Antinov on wingspan, straitman?

Edit: Yes; Sprucegoose (Hughes A4 Hercules) wingspan = 98m; Antonov An-225 Mriya = 88m

Boeing 747-8 = 68m; A380 = 80m (all according to Google :))
Oops forgot that one.

Having been up close and personal with both though I have to say that the Spruce Goose is/was a lot less useful than the Antonov.

^ Was the Spruce Goose able to fly?
If not, that could negatively affect it’s usefulness. :)

Looks like they (the lessor) could not find an interested party for 9V-SKA and 9V-SKB so they are finally being scrapped for parts less than 12 years after they came off the production line

Ironic that in the same year that the above A380 were retired, VH-OJM also retired but only after 26 years of service.

There were issues with the wiring looms in the early build aircraft. Nancy was delayed, in part to get beyond that point in the production. So these aircraft would have been particularly unattractive to the market.

I can imagine someone at the airport stealing a $40 limited luggage tag.
I see this more as a collectible. Certainly wouldn’t be using it on luggage. 😀

Edit: Not much chance of getting one though

The first A380 now being scrapped.

I love what they are doing with the skin. I would like t get my hands on one of the luggage tags but sadly I can't justify the price.
Says it all really about the secondhand A380 market. I love it as a passenger but I won't be surprised if there are still 747s flying after the last 380 has been scrapped.
